May 2, 1968 GUIDE AND BROWNIE WORLD - by M. Roberts Both Guides and Brownies heave been very busy during the month of April. Already covered in this colum was the Fly-Up on April 9 and the Tea and Bake Sale on April 14. On April 23rd all Guides and Brownies participated in Cookie Dey. Congratulations to the girls who braved the .cold - weather to sell from door to door and thanks to all who bought cookies. An up and coming event is the combined Guide and Brownie Mother and Daughter Banquet to be held May 14th at the Moosl Hall. Tickets can be obtained from the Guiders and must be purchased before Mqy 4th. In preparation for the Banquet all Brownies are working on centrepieces for the tables, while the Guides have taken on the job of making Posters and Place Cards. At the same time we are all re- hearsing our amateur theatricals to be presented that evening. A total of 17 little girls were welcomed into the three packs during the month. Pack 1 - Wendy and Barbara Linton, Melanie Boyd, Patty Gorman, Di-ne Caron, Carol Weberg. Pack 2 - Leslie McBride, Ann Rowsome, Kathy Osmar, Fay Deakin. Pack 3 - Anne Stephen, Janice Pytyck, Irene Bergeron, Lois Caron, Lisa Kenney, Denise Vienneau and Judy Moher. The lst Terrace Bay Guide Company visited Mr. D.Thomp- son's work shop on April 20. He showed the girls many different kinds of rocks and how to polish them. On April 23rd, Mrs. T.Kirkup, a Physical Health Instruc- tor from Schreiber visited the company and helped test the girls on their Keepfit Padges. On April 20 two Patrols of the 2nd Terrace Bay Guide Company hiked to the Kiwenis Beach to pass more tests. Four girls passed their hike, fire precaution, fire fight- ing and outdoor fire. In order to pass their outdoor fire, the girls have to boil weter and make toast in three minutes. Several Guides are ready to pass their Hostess Badze but we need birthday parties for them to work at. If any- one is planning a birthday party and could use some help please let us know. We are proud to announce that Wendy Mcllillan has re- ceived her Religion and Life Emblem. This badge takes one full yeer to earn and there are only two Guides in the 2nd Company who hold it. All Guides, with parents consent, were invited to at- tend a sex educational film, sponsored by the C.G.1.T., on April 27, at the Community Church. The Guides wish to thank the C.G.I.T. for inviting them and a special thanks to Mrs. E.McAdam, R.N., who led the girls in an interesting question and enswer session following the film. LADIES AUXILIARY TO HOLD POT-LUCK SUPPER The Evening Group, Ladies'Auxiliary, will hold its next regular meeting on May 6th. This meeting will take the form of a pot-luck Supper commencing at 6.00 p.m. The G.C.1.T. girls will be hosting the supper and will also ane charge of the evening worship. The program will consist of working with the girls to finish their carnations, including a discussion on parent-youth concerns. If time permits, a Bible study will follow and everyone is asked to bring their bibles, as well as something for the meal. TERRACE BAY NEWS RECREATION BRIEFS - by David Courtemanche Page 12 TERRACE BAY LADIES CURLING CLUB The Terrace Bay Ladies' Curling Club held thefr last general meeting of the season on April 23rd with President Ida Romaniuk in the Chair. The election of Officers for 1968/1969 executives turned out as follows: Ann Latour - President Norma Crockford - Vice President Marg Liebrock - Second Vice President E. Burns - Secretary, C. Czitkovich - Treasurer. The Directors: A. Pelto, B. Randa, E. Zwir, J. Gunter, D. Koski. Trustees: M. Hermes and S. Gusul. Auditors: D. Rafalant and P. Kelty. Prizes were presented to winners and runners-up of each division. Lunch and refreshments were served by the Fxecutive. Wind-up banquet will be held May 4th. KR KEK RR KKK KERR KERN E ART CLUB - There will be a general business meet- ing this coming Thursday at 8 p.m. BADMINTON NEWS - With the North Shore Bad- minton Association (N-S.B.A-) Tournament being held last Sunday, April 29th, the local badminton has been brought to a close for the season. The Red Rock Badminton Club was host club this season, with entries from Manitouwadge, Marathon Terrace Bay and Red Rock. The Terrace Bay Club with 11 various entries, brought back the Kimberly- Clark Pulp and Paper Co. trophy for men's doubles championship, won by Cliff Linton and Lionel Wag- horne. June Linton and Rena McAdam won the . ladies doubles consolation, and Rosslyn Kenney and Lionel Waghorne were runners-up in mixed doubles - consolation. Other final results are not available at this time, but will be published when received. | The Terrace Bay Badminton Club will be host for the} 1968-69 N.S-B-A. tournament, so all badminton enthusiasts - store your racquet in a press, but don't forget where you put it! MINOR HOCKEY EXFCUTIVE 1968-69 - Anyone - wishing to hold office of any type next year on the Minor Hockey executive is requested to contact the Nominating Committee Chairman (Jim Beddard) or the Recreation Office, 3542.
