APRIL 11 RECREATIO N_BRIEFS - by David Courtemanche The Sewing Course for teens started on Tuesday, April 9th, however, it is still not too late to regis- ter. Contact Mrs. H. Brooks (3691) or the Recrea- tion Office (2542) -- The Terrace Bay Navy League is sponsoring a mix ed bridge party in the lobby of the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel, Wednesday, April 24th, at 8.15 p.m. 1968 For further information, contact Mrs. A. McKechni¢ The Art Club held their regular monthly business meeting on Thursday, April 4th, in the Art Room. Following the transaction of business, a discussion was held about future projects for the Art Club. The secretary was.instructed to inquire about receiving the display of Centennial Art, which we were un= able to have in 1967 because of the great demand. There will be no work session on Thursday, April 11 but sessions will resume on Thursday, April 18th. Students are'urged to attend these sessions in order to complete the projects started during the two re- cent. courses. NOTE: The Games Room, which has been used primarily by teens for table tennis, has been closed for an indefinite period for repairs and mainten- ance. It seems that many of the teens in town don't seem to appreciate any of our efforts to give them a nice, clean environment. When | first arrived in Terrace Bay, this room had draw drapes, Venetian blinds, coffee tables and stools, and even an elaborate shuffleboard. One b one, these furnishings were damaged or destroyed until there is nothing left but four cement walls and two ping-pong tables, and even these someone has tried 'to burn. Two thermostats have been replaced at approximately $60 each. Even the locked metal box which encloses the thermostats has shown signs of being pried from the wall. Well - the fun is now over for our responsible (?) teens. The room is closed for repairs. Members of the Recreation Com mittee have decided to put the room in tip-top shape once again; however, if and when the room is opened again, it will be under strict supervision to ensure that the cement blocks will not be pried from the building. We realize the Centre is the meeting ground for our teens. There is nothing wrong with this. You couldn't want a better place than the luxurious Recreation Centre that we have. However, | can't help but wonder how many of these pull, - thermo- stats, blinds and drapes off walls in their homes. TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 11.
