ET A A AIO Tima A oe TERRACE BAY NEWS ci ake ee eR Due to conflicting events the Penny Auction of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion has been changed to February 9th, in the town hall. Ernie Kelly went to Eganville to attend the fun- eral of Joseph O'Brien this week. Mrs. W.G. Furlonger leaves this week to visit her son Laurie and his family in Rockcliffe. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Devon of Eganville are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mike McGrath - visiting also the Godin families in town - Mrs. Devon being the former Ethel Godin. _ Mr. and Mrs. Leonard O'Brien attended the funeral of Mr. O'Briens' brother Joe, whose death occurred in Pembroke on January 25th. Mrs. Norman McCuaig and Mrs. K.J.M. Davis attended the O.T.A. Convention in Toronto, rep- resenting the East Thunder Bay T.B. Association. CHURCH STRUCTURE TOPIC AT MEETING A Presbytery Visitation was paid to St. Andrew's United Church in Schreiber by Rev. Ken Moffatt, Rev. Bill Hickerson, and Mrs. Jean Crittall, all of Port Arthur. Prior to this the official board of the church met. Basic concern of the committee, in all discussions was the mission of the Church today, with the adde issue, what structures are required for the accom- plishment of this mission. The following headings were used for discussion - The life and work of the congregation, The witness and outreach of the congregation, The minister's and congregation's participation in the Presbytery, The presence of a good pastoral relationship from the people's point of view, and The presence of a good relationship from the minister's point of view. Discussions throughout the meeting were informal, and during the coffee hour which followed, ideas were still brought forward. SCHREIBER HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM Albert Costa's insistence on a 'no star' system for the Schreiber high school's basket ball team, but instead a hard-working fast-moving unit, is playing off decisively. Last week the boys took Terrace Bay boys with a 96-16 victory, and Marathon with a 94-40 score. Albert learned basketball at Scoll- ard Hall in North Bay and in play at Ottawa Univ- ersity, this being his first year coaching the local school whose confidence began with a notable re- cord in a district tournament. A surprisingly large crowd attends the games now, running second infin- terest to hockey, which in Schreiber is an achieve- ment in itself. Shown in the photo by Inez McCuaig, are the boys basketball team. Front | to r - Danny Mac- Donald, David Bromley, Gerry Searles, Greg Morrill, Paul Gauthier. SCHREIBER DANCE-A-THON A dance-a-thon took place in Schreiber high ' school over the week-end, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, with eight couples still on the floor at 3 p.m Saturday. The event is sponsored by the student council of Schreiber high school and twenty three couples began the contest. The entrance fee for contestants was $1.75 and 50¢ for spectators. All couples had sponsors, mostly private individuals, pay ing so much an hour after a set time. The money from this last category will be sent to CARE. Other money realized will be spent by the student council for basketball uniforms and other school affairs. The first prize was $50, second $25 and third $10. A member of the school teaching staff and representa- tive of student council was on duty all the time. A three minute rest was permitted each hour for the dancers. | At 7 p.m. Sunday evening, two couples were left on the dance floor. Because the dancers had already} broken the Marathon time of 45 hours by 3 hours(48) | the council decided to raise the first prize to $100} and give each remaining couple $50.(Cont'd page 14
