Legault MAUREEN MACDONALD REPRESENTS SEPARATE SCHOOL IN PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST Six contestants spoke on six different subjects in St. Martin's Church Hall on Monday afternoon in an elimination contest to choose a representative, who will carry St. Martin's Banner into the public speaking contest on Saturday night. All six entrant: had done much research on their subjects and the judges found it difficult to make a choice. Maur- een MacDonald was chosen the winner and Joan Persson was a close runner-up. RECREATION NEWS - by D.. Courtemanche Recreation Committee Responsibility Areas : At the last Recreation Committee meeting, the members were designated areas which are as follows: G. Ramsay - Chairman; Clarence Buck - Vice- ¢ Chairman & Vending Machines; Mrs. O. Chapman - Curling and Female Activities; Frank Anderson - Maintenance; L. Edmunds - Bowling, Hockey and Male Activities; D. Desrosiers and J. Caccamo - Council Representatives . The Terrace Bay Lapidary Group On January 23rd, a group met at the home of Mr. D. Thompson and formed a club that will be known as 'The Terrace Bay Lapidary Group". Mrs. A. Johnson of Schreiber was elected secretary-treasurer and Mr. S. Reid was elected chairman and contact man through whom all material and supplies will be ordered. An interesting hour was held discussing rocks and their polishing and Mr. Thompson showed them his equipment and various rocks he has collectec Twelve interested people took membership in the club and after adjournment, Mrs. Thompson served a del- icious lunch. Sewing Course Another Sewing Course will start on Tuesday, Feb- ruary 6th at 7 p.m. in meeting room #3(art gallery) Mrs. J. Brooks will again instruct. Be sure to bring a pen, notebook and cloth tape measure, also any patterns and material on which you wish to work. Please indicate your desire to attend by phoning the Recreation Office (3542) prior to the meeting date, as a minimum number of registrations are required before commencing this course. Art Club Annual Elections Don't forget the annual elections of the Art Club on Thursday, February 1, in meeting room #3 at 7 p.m. Ladies Keep Fit Class Due to insufficient registration for the second session the Ladies Keep Fit Class has been cancelled. Learn to Skate Class There is still time to register in this course. Classes are held Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in the arena, and the course is for both boys and girls, with registration fee $1.50. Mrs. A. Pattison is instructress, with both male and female assistants. For more information, phone the Recreation Office (3542).
