She is editor of th Language Experience Reading Program and author of "A Case for Listening Instruction" and "Reading is Thinking". She has worked closely with the Ontar- io Institute for Studies in Education in several pro- jects and has acted as chairman of the committee es tablishing demonstration classes at North Bay. She taught last summer at Durham University in England and has addressed several international conferences on reading. She is scheduled to speak at the Inter- national Reading Association conference in Boston | next April, as well as several other major conferenc} es. Sister St. Edmund was born in Port Arthur and re- ceived her elementary education there. She attend ed North Bay Teachers' College., has specialized in primary education, and began her teaching career in Sault Ste. Marie. She has also taught in North Bay and Schreiber - where she enjoyed three years with the Schreiber Separate School system. A few years ago Sister took a course offered by the Ontar- io Institute for Studies in Education in teaching wit Language - Experience Approach. She was one of the pilot teachers in North Bay and for two hears has conducted demonstration classes at St. Mary's. Last summer she attended classes in England and visited schools there, and this year, accepted the position of Primary Consultant for the North Bay System. Sister St. Edmund enjoys her work with children and has an endless fund of classroom in- cidents to relate, such as the time she was asking her grade ones what they would like to be when they were big, and one small girl replied, "If | don't get a boyfriend, I'm going to be a nun". G.S. O'Brien, school inspector also attended the occasion, and a book display was sent by Moir's of Toronto. Oiher topics were discussed, and the two day event ended with open discussion headed by a panel On Saturday, a luncheon was served in the Guild Hall by the Catholic Parent Teachers' Association. SCHOOL DIRECTORS MEET The School hall directors held their inaugural meet ing Tuesday evening at the Inn with a full attendance Mrs. L. Ibey chaired the meeting, and Secretary Mrs T. Seppala read the correspondence and minutes. Ways and means were discussed to raise funds for hall maintenance. Mrs. Eileen Rouble hosted the Five Hundred card club, Wednesday evening.
