VOL II NO 3 COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council held their first meeting of the New Year, with Reeve Cavanaugh in the chair and all councillors present. Minutes were read by Clerk Hanley and accepted. Accounts passed for payment were as follows; Township - $6,614.86; Hydro - $6,647.42; Library - $512.75. Members of the present library board, including Mr John Brooks, Mr. R. Roberts, Mrs. K. Angus, Mr. H Ratchford, and Mrs. M. Dorland were re-appointed. A resolution was passed requesting the Ontario Fire Marshall's Office to do a Municipal Fire Protection Survey for Terrace Bay. Memberships in the Association of Municipal Elec- trical Utilities and Ontario Good Roads Association were approved. The following were appointed to the Terrace Bay Recreation Committee: Llew Edmunds and re-appoint ed were George Ramsay and Mrs. Ollie Chapman. Mr. Vic Thorpe was appointed Fire Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department. By-law No 200, being one for prelevy of taxes for 1968, was given final approval . Council held considerable discussion regarding the matter of dogs being allowed to run at large. This situation is not good and drastic steps may have to be taken to correct it. Packs of dogs are frightening small school children. Consideration is being given to increasing the fun for any dog owner who allows his dog to run at large. By-Law No.129 states that any dog running at large, not on a leash, or unatten- ded by a competent person, may be seized and im- pounded, and killed, whether before or after im- pounding. There are better and safer ways to ski than bombing straight down the hill and ending up a crumpled tangle of skis and poles at the bottom of the slope. Everybody, learn how to improve your skiing. Lessons start at the hill Saturday, January 20th at 10 a.m. sharp and are FREE to Ski Club members of all ages and abilities. Head instructor Bernie Baeckmann and his trained staff will be on hand to teach you to make those beautiful turns you've always dreamed about. Those who have never skied before are especially welcome. You will be taught the correct way from the ground up. . Eleven club members benefitted from a Ski Instructor's Course held. at the hill last Saturday and Sunday. The course was given by Terry Axelson of the Can. Ski Instruction Alliance and covered all phases of skiing, with special emphasis on the instruction of each particular phase of the training of a skier. Those taking part were given several opportunities to instruct the class themselves. Attending were Joan and Jane Persson, Samuel Harris, Stan and Bill Megraw, Bob Page; Ken Makela, Lyle Nicol, Bob Hopper, Charlie Wise, and Club Instructor B. Baeckmann. These skiers will be instructing at regular Club instruction sess- ions and passing on the knowledge they have gain- ed from this course.
