Last week it was Lena Horne. On New Year's Eve and the following week, The Gold Diggers (you know, those 4 lovely blondes on the Dean Martin Show), will ~ be featured. Elmwood owner Al Seigel boasts ~ about the top-flight entertainers he's had here. "Don't compare us with Toronto, or Montreal, or even Detroit," he says. "Com- pare us with Las Vegas." Guess you have to believe him. Last July, the great Tom Jones was here -- for eight days and a six-figure salary (some say $125,000). Not bad for eight days' work. Among other big-names who have appeared at the Elmwood are Engelbert Humperdink, Sammy Davis Jr. Danny Thomas and The Supremes.
