Two guides - Maureen MacDonald and Candice Cotton were equipped with beautiful silver airplane wings. Lights were dimmed and two lines of Guides with flashlights to represent airport runways took their place. Each Brownie was presented with Brownie Wings and leaving certificate, at the Toad- stool, by her Brown Owl. She then flew in a glitter- ing fantasy ride up to Guides. M.C. Shirley Caron, Captains Pam Jones and Connie Cvitkovich received the girls with Lieutenants Elaine Long and Barbara McMillan. All the new Guides were welcomed into the Horseshoe. M.C. Shirley Caron presented Lorr- aine Belliveau with Souvenir Badge from Heritage Camp. _ Following the serious business, Guides and Brownies merged to the campfire, and were led in song by Jr. leader Lorraine Belliveau. The girls were reluctant to leave their happy evening. Taps were sung first by the Brownies and then by the Guides. Taking part in the ceremonies were Ist. Pack with Leaders Anna McKie and Claire Belliveau, Susan Gerley, Sally Turner, Carol Daley and Sharon Bougie. 2nd. Pack under leaders Mrs. Roberts and P. Boutilier and newcomer Myrtle McBride with Beverly Boutilier, Mary Pat Ramsay and Donna Dakin. 3rd. Mothers present were : Mesdames Gerley, Daley, Boutilier, Mikus, Weaver, Turner, Ramsay, Bouchard, Sinkins, Dejonghe and Bouchie, HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Terrace Bay Horticultural Society was held in the large meeting room of the Recreation Centre, November 7 at 8 p.m. Mr. Al- bert Farrow presided. Reports indicated an active year. The adult member ship numbered 212 with 86 children enrolled in the Junior Gardens Division and 78 planting gardens and 29 participating in the annual Flower and Vegetable Show . Chairman of Community Planting, Jack Chapman, reported on a busy season and extended a vote of thanks to members who assisted in caring for the flower boxes and flower beds at the Shopping Centre, the triangular bed near the Community Church and the flowers around the fountain in Centennial Park. Courtemanche lapidary workshop to be held in the large meeting November 16, 1967 He also thanked work parties who planted the shrub beds and the Centennial crab-trees at the Park. John Steen reported on the Horticultural Sociéty Workshop on October 28th in the Lakehead Coliseum. The workshop was sponsored by Ontario Horticultural Association, Department of Agriculture and Food. Mr. Norman Harrison, district representative chair- ed the meeting and introduced Mr. R.F. Gomme of Toronto who conducted the workshop. An interesting program provided the local delegates with new ideas and a better understanding of the operation of Hort- icultural Societies. Elections resulted in the following officers for 1968 - President, John Steen; Ist. Vice, George Buhrmann; 2nd. Vice, Rudy Gerlach, Secretary, Hilda Hiebert; Treasurer, Jewel Scott; Directors for 2 year terms, Jack Chapman, Henry Hermes, Jack Moore, Rita Corrigan and Mildred Welsh. Directors for 1 year terms, Eva Connors, Barbara Wise, Terry Dorland, Jean Megraw, Hyacinthe Landry. Auditors for 1968 are Mrs. Mary Hubelit and Mr. V.Hopper. R. Sinotte, on behalf of Town Council presented the Horticultural Society with a trophy to be award- ed each year for the grand aggregate in the entire show, won this year by Mrs. Alice Farrow. Mrs. Farrow also accepted a replica of the large trophy which she will be able to keep. A special vote of thanks is extended to Mr .Farrow, past president, and to Mrs. Farrow who served for many years as treasurer. Adjournment was followed by draws for door prizes | including amarylis bulbs and several peony roots, a bottle of herbicide and some flower pots. Mrs. Connors served coffee and doughnuts during an open discussion period that concluded the meeting. Arena Public Skating Schedule - Regular skating schedule for the winter season will be as follows: Sundays - 2 to 4p.m. and 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. Wed- nesday - 3.30 to 5.30 p.m., Friday - 7.30 to 9.30 p.m. Come out and join the fun.
