MARATHON ASSOCIATION FOR RETARDED CHILDREN SPONSORS BAKE SALE The community's response to the Bake sale, held Friday in the lounge of the Recreation Centre and sponsored by the Marathon and District Associat- ion for Retarded Children, proved to be one of the most gratifying efforts from a financial standpoint as well as an indication of the public support and interest in this worthy cause. Members of all the church organizations in town as well as members of the local Branch of the Retarded Children's Assoc- ' jation contributed a large assortment of tempting items of home baking, jams etc. with the result that the sum of $116.92 was realized. A special cake baked by Mrs. J. Shmanka, wife of the Association's President; and artistically decorated by Victor Lombara was raffled at the conclusion of the sale and won by Mrs. J. Warwick of Sund Crescent. The winning ticket was drawn by Mrs. A. Morton. Assisting with the mammoth bake sale were the following: Mrs. G. McMorland convenor, Mrs. A.Gordon, Mrs. E.Rydberg, Mrs. C. Lemcke and Mrs. L. Bertin. LOCAL CHAMBER WILL HOST TRAVEL COUNCIL Preparations for the fall meeting of the Upper Lake Superior Travel Council which will be held in Terrace Bay this month were discussed at the reg- ular meeting of the local Chamber of Commerce held last Thursday in the Recreation Centre. Among the reports given that made by Publicity Chairman L. Crandlemire showed over 7,500: Terrace Bay brochures were distributed by him this year. Over 2,000 town maps were distributed locally also. A report on their attendance at the annual meet- ing of the Northwestern Ontario Chambers was given by Mr. D. Rafalant and Mr. J. Kelty. An interesting film "Celebration" was shown with R.
