June 22, 1967 SHIRLEY CARON APPOINTED DISTRICT COMMISSIONER The regular meeting of the Aguasabon District Local Guide Association met recently with president Sylvia Duquette in the chair. Among correspond- ence was a letter from the Pdlly Lake Camp Commi- ttee expressing regrets that there would be no area camp this year. Several ladies have expressed their willingness to undertake Guide and Brownie leadership, beginning in the fall. These include Mrs. C. Cvitkovich, Mrs. J. Whiteley, Mrs. A.McKie, Mrs. B. Dejon- ghe and Mrs. H. Lang. The Guide and Brownie flower beds in Centennial Park have been planted, and identifying plaques, made by Mrs. W.Kurylo, are ready to be installed. Thank you gifts were given to Mr. A. Farrow and Mr. J. Cumming for their work on models to be placed in the Brownies' gardens. Mrs. Duquette reported that a group of Guides, under the leadership of Lorraine Belliveau, will camp under canvas at the Hayes camp at Walker Lake, during the last week in June. Girl Guides of Canada carry full insurance to cover any even- tuality. Mrs. Daisy Carroll, Area Commissioner, announced that Mrs. Shirley Caron has been appointed District Commissioner for the Aguasabon District, starting in September . Following adjournment of the Local Association meeting, Mrs. Carroll met with Blue and Brown Guiders from both Terrace Bay and Schreiber. Among suggestions made by Mrs. Carroll was that Guidess should meet every month to iron out any problems and to work closely as sisters in Guiding. She also suggested there may be occasions when Guides and Brownies of Terrace Bay and Schreiber can meet together for fun and mutual understanding and help. A strong question and answer session cleared up many details, and it was during this period that Mrs. Carroll urged both Schreiber and Terrace Bay to consider formation of a Ranger Troop for senior girls too old for Guides. It was unanimously decided that there should be two districts with Terrace Bay retaining the name Aguasabon District, with Mrs. Shirley Caron as District Commissioner. A name for the Schreiber District will be selected by the area committee. They will appoint their own commissioner. VETERAN'S SUPPER A GREAT SUCCESS On Friday, June l6th the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 223, Terrace Bay held their Veterans' supper with seventy members and guests present. A delicious supper was served by Silver Birch Chapter O.E.S. From Branch 183, Marathon were two World War 1 veterans - Phil Morgan and Larry Bertin, also Dellos Bertin, Ist. vice-president and Mrs. Bertin and G.K. Dyer, 2nd vice-president. From Branch 109, Schreiber were President Jack Winters, and Mrs. Winters, President of the Ladies Auxiliary . Terrace Bay's only World War 1 veteran is Reeve Ed Cavanaugh. Rev. T.G. Husser opened the supper with Grace and Comra de Cavanaugh proposed a Toast to the Queen. Comrade Dan Rafalant gave the Toast to the Fallen. Following the meal, President of Branch 223, Pat Jones presented the first Legion centennial pin to Comrade N. Bajkiewicz, Branch membership chairman. (continued on Page 10)
