REFUSE NINE FORMER MEMBERS OF THE PARTY } YSUGHGHOT] Jack Stokes the New Democratic candidate for Thunder Bay Riding reports that the New Demooratic Party's Provincial Council has rejected by an overwhelming vote the membership applications of nine former members of the party's youth section on the grounds of Trotskyite affiliations. Each applicant for N.D.P. membership signs a statement that "he accepts and will abide by the Democratic principles pro- gram and constitution of the party and that he is not a member or supporter of any other political party." At the council's meeting in Sudbury executive members of the Ont- ario New Democratic Youth explained evidence against the nine individuals. It was found they belonged to, worked for, or in other ways indicated their support for the League for Socialist Action and its youth branch the Trotskyite movement in Canada. By previous decision of the Provincial N.D.P. convention these groups are defined as a political party. Provincial Council which is the Ontario N.D.P.'s top governing body between conventions has final authority on rejection or accepting membership applications. Mr. Stokes participated in the mass canvass of Sudbury on behalf of: Bud Germa candidete for the New Democratic Party, Federation by election, on May 29.
