Bas- ically it sounds as though you would be playing with a new- comer for the system allows you to pass with a strong hand and open the bidding with noth- ing! Our example shows you the hand against Sweden (east- west) which is, perhaps, the crowning glory of their idea. North has nothing and opens with one club! East overcalls a spade and South forces to game by cue bidding two spades. The remainder of the auction now reverts to standard pro- cedures as North's double shows 6-10 and South's four club bid shows a strong two-suiter. The Swedes could have sacrificed at five spades but felt they could easily set the Finns at five hearts. The opening lead of the club King was taken with dum- my's ace as South sluffed his losing spade. A trump was ducked by East and won in the closed hand with the queen. Now two diamond rounds were played as East trumped the second with the trump knave and took his ace, South had played well as he gathered in the remaining tricks by trumping a third dia- mond in dummy to establish his hand.
