January 26, 1967 IMPROVEMENT IN MAIL SERVICE PROMISED Early last year Bob Andras , Liberal M.P. for this district visited the towns along the North Shore and one of the complaints he heard all along the line was regarding mail service. He promised then to do something about it and now news has been releas- ed that a new schedule will be implemented in the near future. The following excerpts are taken from a letter from the Post-Master General to Mr.Andras: "With regard to the offices west of White River, however, the situation was somewhat different. Various means of improving the service had to be explored and it was finally decided that the best way to provide adequate service to such offices as Marathon, Terrace Bay, Schreiber, Nipigon and Red Rock was to establish supplementary Highway Services between Fort William, Terrace Bay and Marathon. Offers were secured for the performance of two separate services _ and arrangements are now being finalized for implementation as soon as possible: (1) Fort William and Terrace Bay H.S. Frequency: 5 trips per week, Distance: 145.6 miles each way, Arrangement: W.H.Pudas, Port Arthur, $9,291.60 per annum, Schedule: Leave Fort William Il.15 a.m. - arrive Terrace Bay 2.35 p.m. and Leave Terrace Bay 3.20 p.m. - arrive Fort William 7.30p.m. (continued on Page 8) TERRACE BAY NEWS ation for the Disabled is a non-profit organization incorporated under Ontario law, operating entirely and autonomously within Ontario's boundaries to rehabilitate any person 19 years of age and up who has been physically disabled by disease or accident. Sometime this winter, probably in March, they hope to travel from Terrace Bay to Longlac by snow-mobile. This type of travel between the two towns has never before been attempted but it is expected to be a grueling trip which only experienc ed men accustomed to bush travel and expert snow- mobile operators should attempt. If interested, get in touch with one of these men.
