Serving the District To focus attention on the increasing problem of litter on our roads, Kimberly-Clark of Canada Ltd., the Department of Highways of Ontario and the On- tario Motor League are attempting to publicize the problem. Although the roads in Ontario are cleaner than most other places it still costs the taxpayers over $1,000,000 each year to clean them up. In 1962 a law was passed making it possible to fine motorists a maximum of $50 for littering a high- way. This has definitely been a deterrent and many convictions have been made. Litter barrels are placed around picnic areas and along the roads - use them. CAUTION PAYS A LIVING WAGE Winners of last week's safety slogan awards were: H.McCanna, G.Turenko, R.Stachiw, A.Ogrodnik and S.Ballentine. Five others missed the safety 'slogan awards. A disabling injury occurred on September 13th, stopping our mill record at 80 safe days of operation. This is the first lost-time accident in our EXPO '67 safety promotion program. This accident eliminates the entries for the trip to EXPO '67 for the month of September, also the Sep- tember Safety Award. The mill safety objective can still be achieved - someone can still win the trip to EXPO '67. IT COULD BE YOU. REMEMBER - "CAUTION PAYS A LIVING WAGE" COUNCIL QUOTES Dealt with under correspondence at a recent Coun- cil: meeting was the following business:- Letters had been directed to So.Gillies, Beardmore, Marathon, Manitouwadge and O'Connor, asking for a reply to a resolution made by the Council of Terrace Bay con- cerning the proposed Home for the Aged. At the time of the meeting a reply had been received only from Manitouwadge who stated that the Council could take no action over the reolution. In reply to a query a statement was made by Coun- cil to the effect that no work on the new subdivision could be begun this year. Eight hundred dollars was set aside for gem rock, amethyst, galena, feldspar, to be mined locally and used in construction of the fountain (continued page 5)
