Vol .19, No.15 SPORTS TABOID ON N O W This is the week the Winnipeg West Kildonan boys invade Terrace Bay. A full itinerary is scheduled for the boys to keep them occupied all week. A summary of the events is shown below and it is hoped that a good number of parents will attend them. Originally this tournament was planned to have other communities send Bantam teams to Terrace Bay but it was never expected that such a great interest would be shown. Eighteen teams forward- ed entries and, as this was too great a number to accommodate, the committee decided not to host the tournament to all teams but to limit it this year to Winnipeg and Terrace Bay only. This Bantam event could become one of the largest tournaments in Ontario if the same inter- est is shown next year. The only other tournament held during Easter Week is in Georgetown but it generally draws twenty-five entries from all parts of the province. We hope to provide the best of hospitality to the Winnipeg team so that we may be assured of them return next year . SCHEDULE OF EVENTS HOCKEY - Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - at 7.30 each night in the Arena BASKETBALL - Wednesday & Thursday - at 1.30 in the High School Auditorium VOLLEYBALL - Wednesday & Thursday at 2.15 in the Auditorium CURLING - Thursday, April 14 - at 9.30 in the Curling Rink BOWLING - Wednesday - at 9.30 in the Bowling Alley. PACE IS SWIFT > Arcuitects, who nowadays never seem able to give a firm estimate of costs in the construction industry, have a pretty good alibi in the fact that between the time a build- ing is planned and contracts are let prices of all kinds have risen. ADVERTISERS, PLEASE NOTE © Takinc THE TIME to reach small town weeklies is worth the effort according to a man who is reported by a daily paper to be one of the best political executive assistants in Canada. He is Clare Westcott, a member of the staff of Ontario's minister of education. "Get to the weeklies and you get to the province. Their readers remember what they have read." Serving the District April 14, 1966 COUNCIL QUOTES ~ At the April 12th meeting of township Council, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr. W. R.Bray, presented the views of the Chamber on the subject of daylight saving time. He opened by stating that the Chamber in itself was neither for nor against DST, but believed that the adoption of Dst lay in the hands of the commun- ity as a whole, and offered the services of Chamber members in conducting a survey of public opinion in the town. Council was in general agreement with these proposals and approved the survey which will be made on a house-to-house basis in the next week or so. : Much has been said regarding DST in the past months; it is frequently referred to in the local press and it was felt that, should the consensus of opinion be in favour Terrace Bay should adopt a partial DST. This would operate only during the months of July and August; this year on a trial basis with a final decision to be made at election time in the Fall. From the point of view of tradesmen and hotel and motel operators the conformity of time from Mar Marathon to the Lakehead has distinct advantages. There would be fewer bewildered and hungry tourists whose watches and appetites tell them it's meal time, but find that in Terrace Bay they must wait another hour. Those on tours and passing through would be delighted to patronise Terrace Bay stores that are open whey they expect them to be--as they would on daylight saving time. For golfers and those who enjoy the outdoors in the summertime, there would be the advantage of the extra hour of daylight. Although, some mothers may find it harder to corral their children while the sun is still shining. Other items of business discussed included the approval of the selling of carnations by the C.G.I.T on Mother's Day. It was announced that included in the Police Budget for the township for 1966 was the provision of a radar unit to help control traffic on the highway through town. Regarding the dog by-law, the Treasurer stated that more dog tags had been purchased but that there must be a large proportion of the dog population still unlicensed. A letter was read from Mr.W.Farrell resigning from the Bush Fire Suppression Committee due to pressure of business, and a recommendation by Mr. J.Ferrier that he be replaced by Mr.Jack Thomas was approved.
