UNITED CHURCH WOMEN MEET Mrs .John Spillane presided for the regular Feb- ruary meeting of the United Church Women when a donation was made to the Caravan of Manitoba, a youth organization of the Church. Mrs .Oscar Niemi reported two quilts have been completed since January and a third is underway. Mrs. F.W.Hiller, Mrs. R.G.Macadam and Mrs. Nelson Smith will be delegates to the Presbytery meeting in the Lakehead. Mrs. C.W.Slomke, area representative, Superior Presbytery, was welcomed and later led a panel dis- cussion on the aims and objectives of UCW work. Members were reminded of the box of clothing | to be sent to northern mission in March. Mrs .Oscar Laine led the devotional period with Mrs .Alec Gordon as pianist. A Shower for the Cancer organization was. planned for April. CATHOLIC GIRLS CLUB TO SELL SHAMROCKS The February meeting of the Catholic Girls' Club was vice-president's night so Linda Connelly was in charge of the meeting. Forty-seven answered roll call taken by Colleen Cosgrove. A panel discussion on religious topics was planned for the March meet- ing. Linda Connelly and Diane Singleton volunteered to assist in the Parish library during March. Judy McParland reminded members of the birthday fund contributions. Shamrocks will be sold again on St. Patrick's Day. Father Cano spoke briefly on the Mission which starts March 5th, urging members to attend and to bring friends with them. Miss Marion Gibson, supervisor of nursery edu- cation, from Toronto, visited the United Church Kindergarten last week and was most satis fied with the work being done, with the limited equipment. The Valentine tea held by the United Church Women was most successful, introducing a first in such occasions when tea for the first hour was poured by Mrs .Bill Cocks, president of the Catholic Women's League and Mrs. John Spillane, UCW president and, for the second hour, by Mrs. R.J.S. Inshaw, wife of the Anglican Church rector and Mrs. D.F.Muldrew, wife of the pastor of the Uni- ted Church. Servitors were Mesdames Gary Drake, George Scott, Bruce Simon, Bill Kenny, Helmut Frommann, Frank Fummerton and David Nesbitt. Replenishing were Mesd. Russell Macadam, Bill Gerow, Oscar Niemi, Vernon Weaver, Oscar Laine. Mrs. Bill Thrower was cashier and the table of home baking was attended by Mrs.Forbes Macadam and Mrs. Nelson Smith. The World Day of Prayer on February 25th will be held this year in St.Andrew's United Church with women of other congregations taking part. Boyer Gagnon of Fort William visited his parents, Mr.and Mrs.J.P.Gagnon over the weekend. Mrs .Dick Remillard and family, of Sault Ste. Marie, is visiting Mr.and Mrs .Oscar Laine. Mr .and Mrs .Jim McCuaig and Dale spent the weekend with Mr.and Mrs.Art Huard, visiting other McCuaig families.
