Council members of Terrace Bay have issued a challenge to Schreiber councillors in a relay snow- shoe race. As yet no response has been received from Schreiber but if the race materializes Council- lor Rolly Sinotte will lead off. POWER TOBOGGAN RACES - Open races for each power toboggan will be run at the Ballfield--each machine in its own classification according to model and horse power. They will race over a course of 3 laps. The open cross-country race will take place at 3.30 over a distance of 10 miles and all machines will be entered in this contest. The race is open to anyone who has a power toboggan. No entry fee Molson's Brewery will sponsor the event and the firm will award a silver tray valued at $30 to the winner. Top prize money - $30 for first, $20 for second and $15 for third and $10 for fourth. Entries will be ac- cepted up to and including the day of the race. Other events to be staged at the ballpart in the afternoon are:- Log-throwing, log lifting, log sawing wood splitting, tug-o-war, flour packing and canoe packing contests, for teenagers, ladies and men. RECEPTIONS -- The Chamber of Commerce will host a reception for visiting dignitaries at Terrace Bay Motor Hotel at 5.30 p.m. The Kiwanis Club of Terrace Bay will host the N.H.L.Lakehead OLD- TIMERS at a luncheon on Sunday at |2 noon. JUNIOR BONSPIEL - A district Jr.Curling Spiel will take place here during the weekend in conjunc- tion with the Snow Festival. An expected entry of 25 rinks will compete for the Junior championship. The Junior Curling Executive have also planned a large programme and their wind-up banquet will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Curling Lounge. KING TRAPPER - This contest will be judged at the Ballpark on Sunday on the basis of general ap- pearance and participation in activities over the weekend. THOSE PURCHASING TICKETS FROM THE SNOW QUEEN CANDIDATES WILL BE ENTITLED TO FREE ADMISSION to all events in the Arena. There is an additional charge for the dances held at the Moose Hall and the High School. For the exhibition hockey game on Saturday THERE IS NO ADDITIONA CHARGE, but people attending will be required to present their tickets. PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN will be admitted to the Arena free of charge and the following prices will prevail for PUBLIC SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN - FRIDAY AND SATURDAY - 35¢. NEW EXECUTIVE NAMED BY LEGION LADIES The Ladies Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, Branch 223, held their meeting on Sunday evening at the Legion Hall. The new executive was intro- duced as follows:- Mrs. L.Solly, president - Mrs. J.Mercier, Ist vice-president - Mrs.D.Coupal - 2nd vice-president, Mrs. J.Fisher, secretary - Mrs. S.Boyd, treasurer - Mrs. S.Benko, warden, Mrs. C .Bajkiewicz, membership - and Mrs. L. Lawrence publicity. Ways & Means convenor is Mrs.D. Ballentyne, Mrs.L.Edmunds is Social, Mrs. C .Daly is Welfare, Mrs.C .Marcella is kitchen and Sick and Visiting will be under Mrs. J.Little and Mrs. J.Mercier. Four new members were initiated--Mrs. R.Cotton Mrs. R.Belliveau, Mrs. E.Burns and Mrs. W.Cor- rigan. A Penny Auction and Bake Sale will be held on February 20 in the Legion Hall. The president presented Mrs. S.Gusul with a Legion Brooch for her services as treasurer. A $20 voucher was won by Kevin Mercier with the ticket drawn by Mrs.E.Burns. The Pot Of Gold was won by Mrs.R.Belliveau. Lunch was served. An executive meeting of the above group will be held February 10 in the Legion Hall at 8:00 P.M. LOCAL MAN CHOSEN SPORTSMAN OF WEEK ~ Last Friday TV commentator Hal Lee of Station CKPR announced that our Recreation Director, Buck Matiowsky, had been chose to receive the O'Keefe 'Sportsman Of The Week' award. This is the first time a district resident has been so honoured. NAVY LEAGUE ELECTS OFFICERS At a recent meeting of the Navy League Branch of Terrace Bay, election of officers for the current year was held with the following results:- President, Mrs. Win McKechnie - Vice-Pres. Mrs. Kay Thorsteinsen - Secretary, Mrs.Vic Thorpe - Treasurer, Mrs.Marnie Cumming. The Navy League Branch is the project group of the local movement which embraces active Sea Cadets and Wrenettes. There are approximately sixty cadets and thirty wrenettes vigorously train- ing and the groups embrace both Schreiber and Ter- race Bay. The newest group, The Wrenettes, have already sent away and paid for pictures of the ships whose names they have adopted and their Charter has been received from the Provincial Council. Mrs. Betty O'Neil, acting lieutenant, lives in Schreiber and Mrs.Rosemary Thorpe is active sub-lieutenant. One more appointment is to be made. ART CLUB NEWS The regular business will be held on Thursday evening at the Adult Lounge. There will be a film showing. Members are asked to bring paintings for display for the Festival weekend.
