Vol.8, No.46 SOUNCTE. - QUOTES Approval was given to the Department of Education's recommendation for an extension to the Terrace Bay High School, as the Town Council held their regular meeting Tuesday in Council Chambers. Councillor Thompson commended highly the presentation made by the High Schbol Board of their proposal for the extension and the new cur- riculum involved when they met together Thursday evening. Mrs. May Dorland was appointed to the Library Board, replacing Mrs. Hodgkiss who had resigned, following a letter from the Library Board ' Chairman, clarifying the incident over the past recommendation. A letter from the Chamber of Commerce petitioned for partial daylight saving. Considering the close proximity of the railroad town of Schreiber as against other area towns and cities, Council decided to leave this matter in abeyance. It was noted though that, should they wish to reconsider if such places as Port Arthur vote it in, the Reeve may so declare daylight saving in 1966. N. Linkewich requested the showing of Sunday movies at the Roxy Theatre. Council refused to consider his request for an 8 to 10 A.M. showing bu will put his request for a 2 to 6 P.M. and 8 to 10 P.M. showing before the people in a plebiscite. A letter from the Auditors notified Council they could not contribute to the Municipal Employees Benefit Plan a greater sum than contributed by the employee, or not more thantfifty-percent. There- fore they must revise their Medical Insurance. This will be done by next year's Council. Council ap- proved adjusting their previous motion. A statement from Mr. A. Pattison listed Bush Fire Equipment purchased for the Township in the amount of $2,896.08 and a cheque enclosed to cover this amount from Kimberly-Clark Corporation. This was accepted with gratitude. October accounts were passed by Council as follows:- Public Library $379.13, Hydro $5,904.95 Township $27,789.33, Snack Bar $3,115.64 and Recreation $5,216.27. A motion was passed to put $25 ,000 of Hydro funds in Bank Deposit Certificates An adjustment to a Hydro bill for E. Knight was approved. Mr. R. Hofland's resignation as Fire Chief was accepted by Council with regret, as they expressed appreciation for the interest he had shown in the community in his five years here. Councillor Thompson reported on a meeting the previous week with members of the Volunteer Fire Department. The volunteers had submitted the name of Ralph Cole as Volunteer (Continued Serving the District November 18, 1965 CENTENNIAL ORGANIZATION MEETING If any organization in town was inadvertently missed in our invitation list to attend a Centennial Organization Meeting Wednesday, November 17th at 7.30 P.M. in the Recreation Centre, please consider this an official invitation and glso to any of our citizens interested in our Centennial celebration. Many parents took this opportunity to meet their children's teachers and conferred with them. At the close of the session an informative and educational film "The Sociable Sixes and The Noisy Nines" was show. Tea and a tasty lunch was served by the Grade Eight girls. NATIONAL EASSAY CONTEST Fourth place award in a National Essay Contest conducted by the A.B.C.'s of Industry has been received by Lorraine Belliveau. The prize was a cheque. CSB/65 CAMPAIGN REPORT Canada Savings Bonds continue to be a popular method of saving for Kimberly-Clark employees. This year's campaign resulted in total sales of $121,650 - $10,500 more than last year and the third highest on record. Percentage participation too is up, with more than 57% of the Company employees taking advantage of this convenient way to save. INTERESTING FILM TO BE SHOWN The regular meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce will be held Thursday, November 18th at 7.30 P.M. in the Old Curling Lounge.
