COUNCIL QUOTES As the Terrace Bay Town Council met last week the Highschool Board appeared in a body. Invited by Reeve W.Adamo to speak, they declined, stating they were there as spectators, being interested only in Council's disposal of a Highschool Board request. Reeve Adamo had not attended the meeting request- ed by the Board, regarding additional rooms to the Highschool. The Reeve explained he had not atten- ded the meeting as certain specifications requested | by him had not been received prior to the meeting. Although refusing to discuss the business of the meet- ing, Chairman A.N.Chisholm asked the Reeve if he would be willing to meet. Reeve Adamo, although not having received the information submitted to the Department of Education that he had requested, stated he and Council would meet with the Board at the Highschool at a date to be set. Continuing with the business of Council, a letter from Doug Fisher, M.P., urged strong representation from the people of Terrace Bay as the Board of Trans- port Commissioners met in the Lakehead with regard to removal of the Dominion. Councillor Ed Cavan- augh reported he would attend and would present a brief being prepared by a committee of the Chamber of Commerce. Together with Schreiber's represen- tative they hoped to make a strong case. Mr.Glen Pearen applied to run a bus to drive shift workers to and from the Mill. Council noted he al- ready had received permission to transport one shift and this permission covered as long as he kept his taxi contract. The second letter from Mr.Pearen registered a complaint of others in town running a similar bus service without covering licenses and.in- surance. Council agreed this was within the juris- diction of the Police Department rather than Council. Branch 223 of the Royal Canadian Legion sought permission to fly the regulation Poppy Flag during the wreath laying ceremony on November 6. Per- mission was given but Councillor Brown questioned this flag and Councillor Cavanaugh will investigate. Mrs.A.N.Chisholm, who was recently appointed to the Public Library Board, declined the position due to other commitments. Reeve and Councillors felt indignant that they had been placed in this embaras- sing position by the Library Board who had written Council, offering her name and one other. In future all Boards must publicize vacancies and receive applications before submitting them to Council, the Reeve stated.
