Vol. 8, No. 40 COUNCIL QUOTES Terrace Bay Town Council last Tuesday accepted the resignation of their Fire Chief, R.Hofland. The resignation, submitted by Councillor Angus Fraser, Chairman of the Fire Committee, becomes effective Novem- ber 8. Council agreed to meet the following Tuesday evening to determine the future program of the Town's Fire Department. Fire Chief Hofland leaves Terrace Bay to work in the fire prevention field, going to the Toronto office of the Industrial Accident Prevention Association. In his resignation Fire Chief Hofland com- mended highly the people of Terrace Bay for the full co-operation of every householder to his Department during the five years he has held this position. The report of the Police Department was presented to Council by Police Committee Chairman, Councillor Brown. In accepting the report Reeve Adamo felt the mileage on the cruiser could be reduced somewhat for this time of the year. Accounts for September were discussed ' and passed in the following amounts: Pub- lic Library $372.41, Hydro $4,805. Town $25,635.41, Snack Bar $2,812.32, Recrea- tion $6,224.69. A motion was passed to ad- vance $2,500 to the account of the Snack Bar. Councillors discussed insurance coverage of anyone working at the Snack Bar. Coun- cillor Thompson stated the only permanent employees had been the Recreation Director and Janitors, with Snack Bar employees con- sideredpart time. He will investigate this item before Council meets again. Mrs. Lois Hopper has consented to repre- sent the Township to the Children's Aid Society, Councillor Cavanaugh announced. Councillors agreed to meet with the High School Board during their special meeting the following Tuesday evening, and also to select jurors. Permission was granted the Girl Guides and Brownies to collect for Unicef on Oct. 31 and to the Boy Scouts and Cubs to hold their annual Apple Day. The Public Library Board announced they had accepted with regret the resignation of Mrs. Ellen Hodgkiss who leaves after many - years of faithful service. Acting on their recommendations Council appointed Mrs. Marilyn Chisholm to replace Mrs. Hodgkiss. (Continued page 4)...
