CAN YOU HELP? The 'Scout and Cub movement in Schreiber is in imi nent danger of being ended unless parents or interes- ted friends of the boys volunteer to assist the commit- tee. Highschool teachers came to the rescue last year but increased school agenda this season will fully occupy their time. The committee has called an open meeting to discuss the problem for September 28th in the town hall basement at eight o'clock. LIBRARY BOARD MEETS The Thunder Bay Bookmobile was here last week and the fall exchange of 393 books made. This does not include the unit of 100 books selected by the highschool. Librarian George Kouki made the ex- change, enjoying the rivalry between the various selectors attempting to increase the books in their department as the expense of another to no avail. Following the count by H.M.Ermel the board held its meeting. .All were pleased at the increased grant which is of such assistance. An excellent list of ap- proved children's books was supplied free of charge by the Department of Education. It was decided to order the "Soviet Union Today" a magazine supplied through the USSR embassy in Ottawa which supplies current information on their country. A listing of books used on radio school programs was also studied and it was found that most of these are already on the shelves. However, if others are requested they will be ordered. An order for cards, tape, and other library supplies was placed.. Councillor J.M.McGrath was appointed to meet with the fire brigade regarding the resignation of W .R.Weaver as fire chief, effective October 19. Council agreed to meet with Nipigon council finance committee on the problem of appointing municipal assessors. The ever-present dogs-running-at-large nuisance was again considered and efforts will be made to meet the problem by appointing an official dog cat- cher. The difficulty here is not financial but social, the last man holding the job resigning because of the ill-will he incurred with his own children whose sympathy was with the cul prits. Spadoni Company wrote again concerning sewer line, in light of recent public release by Ontario Water Resources Commission concerning provincial financing of water and sewage projects. The request of Police Chief S.W.Timmerman for holidays from October 2 - 8 was turned over to the Police Commission.
