« May 27, 1965 THE LOCAL STUDENT WINS FIRE PREVENTION POSTER CONTEST District students, and particularly students of St. Martin's Separate School in Terrace Bay, did ex- tremely well in the District Forest Fire Prevention Poster Contest sponsored by the Dept.of Lands and Forests. Many excellent and original posters were entered and out of twenty-one prizes and one honorable mention, eight went to Terrace Bay and Schreiber students . David Cruickshanks, a St.Martin's School student, won first prize (see above) for his poster, the original of which was artistically colored in shades of brown and red with black lettering. George Dashkewytch of Terrace Bay, Lloyd R alph of Schreib er Public School were among the top seven contenders while Colleen Kenney, Lorraine Belliveau, Ronald LaBelle (Schreiber), Antoinette | Desaulniers and Jack Cruickshank all were given an "honor able mention'. Other prizes went to students of Longlac, Hillsport and Geraldton schools. FANFARE NIGHT A FAMILY TREAT JUNE 4TH The popular Terrace Bay Band are almost ready to present their Annual Fanfare Night--a musical treat which has been very popular with young and old the past few years. Other popular arrangements are, of course, held in: reserve in case the crowd demand encores. The Band will present a concert in Marathon June 2nd | and another in Terrace Bay on June 4th. Senior Regent Ann Didura opened the meeting with Recorder Alice Yates reading minutes and correspondence. Election of officers was conducted with the instal- lation to take place June 5th. Executive Committee will be in ch arge of the Chap ter Night Program June 2 when four new members will be enrolled. Members are reminded to bring something for the Penny Auction table. The meeting closed when luncheon was served. A successful penny auction was enjoyed by mem- bers of the Ladies Auxiliary and guests of Branch 223 at the Legion Hall under convenorship of Ethyle Boyd. Cards and games were played and the door prize was won by Dorothy Plourde. A cake in the shape of an anchor had been made by Win McKechnie and was served with tea at the close of the evening. Best wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Mrs .Aili Austin of Port Arthur who suffered a heart attack while visiting her daughter, Betty Bouchard and family, and will be a patient in Terrace Bay Hospital for six weeks. Don Kennedy was home from Kapuskasing visiting his parents, Mr.and Mrs.Ed Kennedy for the holiday weekend. Ed's mother, Mrs.A.Kennedy of Montreal is presently visiting with them. Mr cand Mrs.Arnold Almos have had her son-in- law and daughter, Mr.and Mrs.Murto Maki with Wendy of Port Arthur visiting for the long weekend. Reeve and Mrs.W.Adamo had their daughter, Mrs. S.Fabbro and children of Sault St.Marie visiting for the holiday weekend. They were accompanied by another daughter Cecilia Adamo and Mr.Jim St. Germaine, also of Sault Ste. Marie. Rita and Joe Cavanaugh of Deep River visited his parents, Mr.and Mrs .Ed Cavanaugh last week . Mr .and Mrs.J.Arthur with their daughter Mrs . G .Rose of Espanola were guests of Mr.and Mrs .Joe Heenan enroute to and from the L.S.S.R.Reunion in the Lakehead over the weekend. Evelyn and George Partington and children of Ft. William were guests of Marg.and Henry Duriez last weekend.
