BROWNIE BANQUET Photo by Inez McCuaig The Brownie annual mother and daughter banquet was given in the Guild Hall, prepared by the C.W.L and served by the Catholic Girls Club. Brown Owl Mrs.Giovanni Cebrario welcomed the guests and proposed the toast to the Queen. Father J.M.Cano said Grace and Rev.D.F.Muldrew gave | the benedication. Debbie Caccamo toasted the mothers and Mrs.Joe Caccamo responded. District Commissioner Mrs.S.Mikus lauded the Schreiber Guiders for the time, effort and thought shown in the weekly programs presented. Four Schreiber leaders completed six courses offered and: others are taking the course by correspondence. The variety of the meetings they conduct and the orderliness with which they proceed are ample proof of the forethought given. The rituals are well-con- ducted, all games entered into with zest and when occasion arises the chores of 'kitchen police' are well carried out--all indicating that discipline is of high order.. Great credit must be paid the C.W.L. who sponsor. the movement and this year another step forward has been taken in forming a committee withing: the League which will relieve the Brownie leaders of some work, leaving them more time with their girls. Warranted Tawny Owl, Mrs.O.B.Fasan, who will be in France next year, and Mrs.P.Mostovac, who will be in Sudbury, were presented with farewell gifts by Alanna Power and Susan Phillips. Mrs. _ Mikus also received a gift. Rev .Muldrew said it was splendid effort on the C.L.W.'s part to sponsore such a movement, embrac- ing girls of all churches within the town, and with the religious significance of the work teaching that all worshipped the same God. The Brownies gave a comical skit with Sandra Chatterson as a mother receiving unusual gifts from her children. Others taking part were Roseanne Speziale, Sharon Scott, Laura Campbel), Paula Gauthier, Cathy McGuire and Karen Glad. Guest Speaker, Mrs.Ramond Bailey, told of the first organization of the Guides in Schreiber in 1925, when to become a Captain she went to London, Ont. for a two week training course. She describ ed the trip on the Jubilee special camp tour to Victoria in 1927. TUBERCULOSIS ASSOCIATION (Continued from P.1) vidual a sense of responsibility toward control of _ this infectious disease . The Charter of the Provincial Association was amended last year to permit county assaciations to expand their program into the non-tuberculosis res- piratory field wh ere there is much to be done in the area of emphysema, chroni¢ bronchitis, asthma, etc. The effect of smoking on general weil being is no longer a matter of debate and here a committee may make a great contribution in the field of education which may ultimately be the area in which the vol- untary committees will find their greatest work. A provincial thoracic society has been brought into existence by the Ontario T.B.Association and its medical advisory and, according to the Society, aproximately half of the persons visiting general practitioners are suffering from some form of respir- atory abnorm ality. We must consider tuberculosis a world-wide pro- blem and only as we assist other countries to comb at it can we feel secure, especially in this day of inter- continental transit. Since the International Union Conference in 196l and including our cost of that conference, the Ontario associations have given far in excess of any other province, state or nation, to the support of the international program. Following the meeting the gathering went on to the President's home wh ere a buffet dinner and social evening were enjoyed.
