Twenty residents of Rossport, Schreiber and Terrace Bay gave their declaration of Renunciation before taking their Oath of Allegiance to receive from Judge Reed their Certificates of Citizenship. Reeve W.Adamo of Terrace Bay congratulated the | new citizens of Canada and bid them welcome. He welcomed particularly the culture they brought from their native land and asked that as Canadian citizens they take an ever greater interest and ac- tive part in the future of our beloved country. As a prelude to his address the music of 'This Land was Made for You and Me! was played, and Judge Reed continued that he could hope they could find in this land peace and prosperity for themselves and their families. He trusted they would each make a contribution to their new land. Though shedding their old land, he reminded them, it was like leav- ing their Mother, they still love her though married and in a new life. He felt it to be quite momentous to be attending two first that day in Terrace Bay; the first time to be raising their new flag and the first time a Citizenship court was held here. Rev.T.G.Husser, Chaplain of the Sea Cadet Corps Superior mentioned briefly the early days of explor- ation in Canada for those seeking freedom of worship and government. This freedom has been jealously guarded over the centuries. On behalf of St.Mar- tin's Romas Catholic Church and the Community Church he welcomed the new.Citizens to Terrace Bay and expressed the wish it was a move they would never regret. President of the Chamber of Commerce, Mr.Neil Cornthwaite stated it was a great pleasure to wel- come them and the Chamber always took an active in interest in new citizens. (Continued page 4
