Lady curling enthusiasts gathered from many points in Northwestern Ontario to fill the thirty- two rink limit set for the Ladies Bonspiel held over the weekend in Terrace Bay. Piped onto the ice Friday morning by Walter McMicking in full Scot- tish regalia, the ladies were wecomed by President Jayne Coons who threw the first rock. A busy sche- dule was maintained from early morning till late into the night for the th ree days to complete the play and Sunday afternoon was highlighted by the presentation of awards and the jovial repartee of good sportsmanship. The Nesco, or Northern Engineering Supply Co. Trophy, with individual trophies, was accompanied by train cases to First Event winners Ann Latour with Olive Kross, Bea Fawcett and Dora Trach. Runner up in this event and recipients of collapsible umbrellas was the Betty Bouchard rink, also from Terrace Bay, with Louise Gavin, Bev Weaver and Fran Gerow. -Third place went to the Larry Norris rink from the Port Arthur Country Club with Ann Johns, J.Reid and |.Riddell. In fourth place was the Jean Dudgeon rink from Marathon comprised of Norah Kelly, Irene Unger and Audrey Allan. Dene Clancy came in with a raise to lay one with Porter having three counters in the house, tak- ing the Second Event by ten to eight and with this was piped off the ice to the tune of "Clancy Lower- ed the Boom". First place prizes were electric mixettes to the rink of Dene Clancy, Evelyn Shivas, Marilyn Chisholm and Donna Josus of Terrace Bay. Their runner-up was skipped by Jean Porter of Atikoken with a rink of E.Rochailo, R.Dayman and T.Shannon. Third place winners from Chapleau were popular Min Blackburn with W.O'Hearn, C. TO THE 17TH ANNUAL BONSPIEL The Terrace Bay Men's 17th Annual Bonspiel will get under way on Thursday, April Ist at 6:00 P.M. when Mr. W.McMicking pipes the curlers onto the ice. To start the competition the Mill Manager, Mr. J.Ferrier, will throw the first rock while the Reeve, Mr. W.Adamo, sweeps. There will be thirty-two rinks participating with outside rinks from Fort William, Manitouwadge, Marathon, Port Arthur, Rossport, Schreiber and Kapuskasing. There are four events with over $300 in prizes; the first prize being a set of golf clubs. A buffet supper will be served to all curlers on Saturday evening. The finals will be at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 4th. Last week the winners in the 'B' and 'C' divisions were declared. The team skipped by J.Benko, with A.Chadney, T.Kostiuk and J.Szpak won the Car- ling Trophy in the 'B' division. The runner-up team was skipped by K.Johnson with J.Dejonghe, third and W.Adamo lead. The Northern Builders Sales' Trophy for 'C' division was won by the T.Olsen rink with T.Battershill, G.Martin and R.Cotton. The runner-ups were Skip, J.Gross with A.Gerow, M.Dorman and J.Figliomeni. There are still four teams in the running for the Hiram-Walker trophy in the 'A' division. Don't forget the Social at the Curling Club on Saturday, April 3rd. GOLF NEWS With the feeling of Spring in their bones, the exe- cutive of the Aguasabon Golf Club held a meeting on Wednesday, March 24th. Thor Olson presided for Jack Thomas who is away on wacation. Also present were Dave Desrosier, Jack Phillips, Al . Pattison, Ross Mitchell and Joe Adamo. A budget forthe year was submitted but, after some discussion on further expenditures anticipated, was shelved until next meeting. The Club House was also discussed and it was deemed necessary to first instal water, sewerage and septic tanks as soon as possible. Costs for this were estimated in the neighbourhood of $3500. Since this expenditure is a must it is quite likely that the amount will have to be included in this year's budget Thor Olson also mentioned that plans and costs of the Club House should be ready for the general meeting.
