COUNCIL QUOTES At their regular March meeting the municipal council decided that application for the recently- received free parking stickers must made to either the Reeve or Councillor J.M.McGrath, after which Clerk Skinner will issue them. These are for use during conventions or similar gatherings, or for dis- tinguished visitors for oth er occasions. Councillor Guina feli that the submission by the police commission should have been accepted since it represented the opinion of two councillors and the reeve but councillor Jolicoeur held that, as with any suggestion from any other department, it should be discussed and passed on. Councillor McGrath being absent, no further action was taken. Regarding proposed insurance for town employees, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the employees for further inquiry, after which they can present their choice to Council for approval . Port Arthur Ship replaced the furnace grates in the Town Hall but maintain the damage was not caused by defective material and could have been due to build up of ashes beneath them. It was decided to confer with the Dept.of Highways in regard to the extension of time on the unfinished Subway project before any action is taken. In reponse to request from Shuniah re ambulance duties by Ontario Provincial Police in such points as are deemed necessary, Schreiber will endorse the resolution, for highway purposes. The Council are also in agreement with having an additional seven municipalities enter into the district home project. Councillors Jolicoeur and McParland will attend the 'clean literature' committee meeting in Terrace Bay this month. The Childrens' Aid were notified that Schreiber will undertake its share of support on the unit basis as was done last year. Water accounts of only $15.14 aroused amused com- ment but these, and general (Continued ...... ) St tetber 2» Ps March 18, 1965 BOY SCOUT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT couts from Terrace Bay Ist troop and Marathon Beaver Troop met in Schreiber to engage with local scouts in the first Pic River District hockey tourna- ment. The event was won by Schreiber. In charge of the boys were Tom Battershill, assist- ant Scoutmaster of Terrace Bay and Ted Green, Marathon Scoutmaster, with John Kenderdine and Russell Campbell, scoutmaster and assistant, of Schreiber. At noon, (the games beginning in the morning), the boys were given lunch in the Guild Hall, arrang- ed by Mesdames Gordon McParland, Arthur Moorey, Gabe Gauthier and Ambrose McGrath, assisted by the Girl Guides and Colleen Cosgrove of the Catho- lic Girls' Club. The menu was planned specially for boys' appetites--chili con carne, with man-sized buns, fruit salad, cookies and milk. OPEN HOUSE AT PUBLIC SCHOOL Both the staff and the school board welcomed cal- lers at the public school Open House on March 12th. After visiting the teachers and inspecting pupils' work in each classroom the callers were served tea and small cakes by Mrs.Earl Glad, Mrs.Gladys Madigan, Mrs.Edward Lang and Mrs. Bill Fadden. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER OBSERVED Mrs.Alec Gordon, accompanied by Mrs. J. Smitheman, was soloist at the World Day of Prayer service, held this year in St.John's Anglican Church. Mrs.J.D.Bryson, Mrs.Fraser Muldrew, Mrs.R.J.S. Inshaw and Mrs.Nelson Smith led the service and others taking part included Mesdames Reg. Bailey, Russell Macadam, Bill Thrower, Oscar Niemi, Jack Bryson, Cyril Sparkes, Jack Corbett, Fred Harness and George Gordon. Mrs. Jack Ridsdale was the Key Woman for this year. POOR ATTENDANCE AT CURLING MEETING Due to the very poor attendance at the Ladies Curling Club meeting on Sunday,a further one, to finish the year's business, will be held on Sunday, March 2Ist at 2 P.M. in the Club room. ALL MEM- BERS ARE ASKED TO ATTEND.
