LEGION CURLING CHAMPS SLATED FOR DRUMMONDVILLE (Ottawa) Eastern Legion curlers are out to break a monoton- ous monopoly on silverware, a grip held by the Westerners for eight years now . They get their next chance when the Legion's national curling championships open in Drummond- ville on March 22nd. The five-day round-robin playoffs will be held at the Drummondville Arena, with the local branch hosting. About 8,000 Legionnaires are involved in play- downs at branch and district level. Provincial finals will be completed by March 8th. Branch competition is open to any ordinary or life member of the Legion. Although Western teams have won the eight past encounters, the Easterners have been steadily im- proving. Last year, after eight draws, the Eastern teams were tied with two Western groups for second place. Winner was hometowner Dunc Grant of Calgary with a 7-2 record. ANDY O'BRIEN TO APPEAR AT SPORTSMAN'S SHOW Andy O'Brien, sports editor of Weekend Maga- zine has accepted an invitation to officially open this year's Sportsman's Show on the evening of April 2lst at 8 p.m. The Show is held annually by the Kiwanis Club of West Fort William and is becoming one of the big events each year. Ted Peck, a well-known TV and Radio personality will also appear under the sponsorship of Rothman's ciu Pall Mall. A Porpoise Act--The Five Wades- Willy Keo and local dance group are among the entertainers booked for the show. Tickets go on sale in Mid=-March.
