A letter was read in connection with estab lishing the Home for the Aged. -Some Municipalities were against the present method of assessment and a brief was submitted to the Dept.of Municipal Affairs re- questing a more equitable distribution of cost. The working schedule of Mrs.E.Hodgkiss during the absence of a Recreation Director was received: cil. Mr.Beverley MacCauley of the Community Pro- grams Branch met with the Recreation Committee on Thursday and members of Council were invited to sit in on this session. Grants and programming were to be discussed. The Police Department reported nothing of a serious nature over the month of December with not a single call or complaint over the holiday season. The two constables had remained on full duty during this period but were not bringing out a new schedule for 1965. Two fires were reported by the Fire Department for December, one in the Townsite Garage and Forestry Shed and an estimate on cost of new forest fire fight- ing equipment was being prepared. Blockages on the sewer lines which were being flushed was neces- sitating rewinterizing of hydrants each time. The Fire Chief requested to be informed when water pres- sure was to be down. Accounts for January were passed for payment as follows:- Public Library $274.69 - Hydro $8,531.45, Township $17,243.32 and Snack Bar $595.39. Appointment of a Deputy Reeve was usually based on the highest majority of votes received but with Councillors elected by acclamation this year Reeve Adamo requested a vote. A motion by Councillor Thompson to appoint Councillor Cavanaugh as Deputy Reeve was accepted by Council. Reeve Adamo presented six major Municipal pro- jects for consideration in 1965: 1 - Curbing on Lake- view Drive, Birch and Poplar Crescents and Superior Avenue. 2 - More lighting in residential area where most needed. 3 - Consider temporary road extension through Lakeview Drive. 4 - Discuss Centennial project. 5 - Extension of sewers on Lakeview Drive Shell Canada Limited Requires Sound reliable people who wish to get into business for themselves as Service Station operators. After describing a recent situtation concerning payment, Council agreed the Dog By-Law should be enforced as authorized, without exception. Councillor Thompson requested a special meeting for the review of wages and benefit plan for munici- pal employees. The meeting was scheduled for Jan. 19 at 7 P.M., with the recommendation that someone other than Councillors, and authorized on the sub- ject, peruse the benefit plan prior to the meeting. Relocating the Police Department was among the early requirements of Council, Councillor Thompson noted, commenting he was still of the opinion amal- gamation was the answer for better service. He suggested the building of a Police office with cells, and housing apartments for personnel in the building, by an outside agency. Reeve Adamo reminded Council he had suggested a Municipal Building for this purpose and housing the Public Library in 1963.
