1964 GIRL GUIDE ASSOCIATION MEETING Mrs. Shirley Mikus chaired the October meeting of the Girl Guide Association which was held Monday evening:at the home of Mrs.Ken Turner. Secretary's report was read by Mrs.Turner and Mrs. Alice Farrow gave the financial statement. Mrs. Mikus gave an interesting talk on the work of a Guider and District Commissioner. A Division October 29 attended by Mrs. Mikus. It was decided that five cents would be donated by each Guide and Brownie for the May Badanai fund. Convenors reports were read: Uniform Con- venor noted there was still one Guider uniform to be turned in. She has one small size Guide uniform and one small size Brownie uniform for sale if any mother is interested. Unicef was discussed with varying opinions on when it should be collected. lt was agreed to leave this for Halloween for the present year. The meeting was adjourned and lunch served. Due to lack of business at the present it was decided there would be no meeting in November. The next meeting will be the annual meeting in January. REGIONAL CONFERENCE HELD BY C.W.L. Rev. C.H.Kanavy, 5.J., Director of the Fort William Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women's League, and Mrs. A.A.Bedard, President, have just travelled some 1375 miles to complete a tour of Regional Conferences held in the Western sec- tion of the Diocese. Meetings were held in Fort Frances, Pinewood, Kenora, Balmertown, Dryden, Sioux Lookout and Atikokan, with I8 parish coun- cils participating. Mrs .Bedard spoke on the aims and objects of the League, urging members to become better informed as to their responsibilities and to acquaint them- selves with regard to the many spiritual benefits derived from their membership in the Catholic Women's League of Canada. She gave instructions regarding Per Capita Fees; report forms; and presen- ted some of the proposed programmes set forth at the Provincial Convention held last July in Vine- land. First of these is the Catholic Adoption Pro- gram which is to be continued for another year, with greater emphasis placed on providing foster and adoptive homes for handicapped children, for those with mixed racial backgrounds and for older children. Another proposal urges the establishment of discussion groups at parish council level. Father Kanavy explained the steps to be taken to continue our Adoption Campaign in this Diocese, started a year ago, and urged members to open their hearts to these unfortunate little ones starving for love and affection. Father Kanavy continued with instructions on how to increase membership in the League, and terminated his talks with a workshop _ on the Liturgical changes taking place today, ex- plaining how each member can contribute and share - more fully in the new Liturgy of the Church.
