ART EXHIBITION MOST IMPRESSIVE Gay summer flowers amidst driftwood was the artistic setting for the Terrace Bay Art Club's annual Exhibition of fine arts and crafts, held Saturday, September 26th, in the High School Auditorium. Predominantly oils, the one hundred and twenty-five paintings covered portraits, figures and abstractions with emphasis on landscape, and definitely displayed the continuing advances being made by the local artists. A further display of oils was shown by the neighboring Schreiber Club. Receiving the guests was Sadie Gaulin, President, and Tea Convenors, Virginia Galvin and Shirley Hersey. Snapdragons and gladiolus in a low crystal bowl centred around a driftwood setting and white tapers in crystal candlelabra graced the lace covered tea table. Pouring tea during the two showings, afternoon and evening were: Mesdames M. Hayes, E. Evans-Smith, K. Jeanneret, T. Young, M. Baillie, -- A. Papowsek, M. Welsh, R. Mitchell and A. Latour. Carrying out the floral and driftwood setting on the individual tea tables, guests were served by Mesdames M. Ward, M. Chisholm, |. Pattison, O. Chapman, R. Kenney, B. Turner and C. Persson. Replenishing were: Irene Nicol, Susan Tao, Win McKechnie, Gertrude Boyd, Lynn Wilson, Mary Middaugh, Helen Farrell and Glenna MacDonald. Two demonstrations were highly interesting to the spectators, one being by M. Middaugh on pottery during the afternoon and the other by S. Gaulin of the three stages in creating and finishing an oil painting. The Ceramic Club also exhibited items of i their year's work. Two films were shown during the Afternoon and again in the evening by the projec tionist, Don Teniuk. The first film on art was en- titled "Varley" and the second on ceramics was "Peter and the Potter". Four pieces of pottery were chosen during the annual Exhibit to be placed on display in the Public Library and paintings by Irene Uzicanin, Gertrude Boyd, Mary Middaugh and Sadie Gaulin.
