Reeve F.V.Harness presents keys of car to Mr.S.W. Timmerman, officer in charge of Municipal Police. Photo by 1. McCuaig The Municipality of Schreiber last week welcomed Mr. Stanley W. Timmerman who commenced his duties on May 15 as Officer in Charge of Municipal Police. Mr .Timmerman began his career with the Ontario Provincial Police at Hailebury in 1941, later joining the Kirkland Lake Police Force and, for the past eight years, was Chief Constable at Larder Lake. In 1946 he and a fellow officer were presented with the Royal Canadian Humane Society Award by Com- missioner W.H.Stringer, O.B.E., of the Ontario Provincial Police for reviving a drowning victim by artificial respiration. This was the first time such an award had been made to a member of the O.P.P. During his career Mr.Timmerman has been involved in the investigation of the usual number of cases of robbery, suicide, murder and traffic accidents but one of his most harrowing experiences was being attacked with an axe while investigating a disturb- ance . The man was later charged with attempted murder . At the end of June Mr.Timmerman will be joined by his wife and four sons whose ages range from three months to 21 years of age. He also has a married daughter living in Virginia, Ontario. DISTRICT TEACHERS MEET On Saturday, May 23rd, the North Shore Assoc- iation of the F.W.T.A.O. held their spring meeting in the Schreiber Public School . The President, Miss Gwen Hadley welcomed the members from Terrace Bay and Marathon. Having returned from the Spring Assembly at Dryden she pre- sented reports on the Goodwill Liason with the Teacher's College, Penmanship, Emergency Fund, Public Relations, Amendments to the Constitution and the Pension Plan. Continued O H4 NEW OFFICERS OF HIGH HOME & SCHOOL The regular meeting of the Schreiber High Home and School Association was held in the High School with Mrs. J.Rummery presiding. Minutes of the previous meeting and the Annual Report were read by Mrs. Jack Bryson. The treasurer report was given by Mrs. R.Needham. Principal O.B.Fasan spoke briefly, announcing that the Graduation Exercises will be held on Sept. 12th at 7.30 P.M. He introduced two new teachers, Mr .Bill Attwood and Mr .Ray Cote, who will b e joining the Staff in September. He also announced that a Commercial Course will be offered as an op- tion subject in Grade 9 in September . An invitation to the June Prom to be held on the 19th was extended to all parents by Mr.Fasan on behalf of the Student Council . It was decided to hold a Social Evening in the Guild Hall on June 5th with Mrs. R.Fournier con- vening. The retiring President, Mrs.J.Rummery, thanked the teachers and members for their co-operation during her term of office. The following officers were installed by Mrs.Rummery: President - Mrs. W .Cocks, Vice-Presidents - Mrs.S.Chicoine and Mrs.R.B.Spadoni, Secretary - Mrs.Neil Ross, Treasurer - Mrs.R.Needham, members of the Execu- tive - Mesd. J.Morris, D.Condie, L.Christie, L. Bryar and G.Scott. A short discussion took place concerning the pur- pose of the Home and School Association and it was agreed to have the teachers present before each meeting to meet with the parents. Convenors named were:= Membership, Mrs.G.Scott - Program, Mr. P.Mulligan and Publicity, Mrs. D.McGuire. Mrs.Gordon McParland agreed to convene the lunch for the Commencement Exercises in September . On behalf of the Association Mrs.Rummery pre- sented gifts to Miss Pat Quinlan and Mr.Don White, two popular teachers who are leaving at the end of the term.
