MOTHER & DAUGHTER BANQUET HELD. The Girls Auxiliary of St. John's Anglican Church held their Annual Mother and Daughter Banquet in the Church fall on May 21st. Seated at the head table were: Rev. R.J.S. Inshaw, Mr. 0.B. Fasan, Mrs. F. Harness, H, Harness, Mrs. J. Hara (leader), K. Hara, Mrs. D Weberg, S. Harness (leader). The address of welcome was given by Miss H, Harness and Grace by Rev. Inshaw. Mrs. H. Harness proposed a Toast to the Queen and S. Winters gave a Toast to the Mothers with Mrs. C. Dimmery responding. Guest speaker Mr. 0.B. Fasan, High School principal spoke to the girls, most of whom will be entering High School soon, concerning the courses available; he encouraged the girls to continue their education, and told them how fortunate they were to have such a well equipped school to attend. Gifts were presented to Mesdames B, Grey, C. Sparkes, A.C. Rigelsford, G.T. Birch, by Heather Tremblay, Helen Harness, Shirley Ann Winters, in appreciation for preparing the dinner. Following the presentation the girls held a Fashion Show with Sylvia Harness as commentato Models were: J. Singleton, H. Harness, L. JoJicoeur, S. Winters, H. Tremblay, K. Lidkea, C. Bottomley, B. Dimmery, P. Dimmery, J. Walke and J. Bailey. A humorous skit was then presented by the girls. SLE TNE GL TY ESE PSEA TTL PS LTT AWARDS PRESENTED AT LIONS CHARTER NIGHT The Schreiber Lions Club celebrated their llth Annual Charter Night on May 22nd, in the Town Hall, with a social hour, banquet and dance. Guests attending from out of town District Governor & Mrs. Pete Hrynyk and Lion and Mrs. Al Cuthbertson of Fort William and Port Arthur Lion Club respestively; former members of the Schreiber Club.. Following the banquet Zone Chairman Jack Ridsdale gave a short talk on his activities during the past year, and also introduced District Governor P. Hrynyk. In his talk Mr. Hrynyk congratulated the Schreiber Lions Club on their increase in membership and to Lion Secretary Wally Weaver for his outstanding work as secretary of the club. Mr. Hrynyk also gave a short talk on the Lions Convention to be held in the Lakehead in June. Awards were made to the following members by. Governor Hrynyk; Certificates to; Messrs. Don Hencher, Jack Ridsdale, Roly Gander and Jack Handel; Clutch Medal to Mr. D. Hencher; Desk Ornaments to Past. President Mr. N. Jolicoeur and Mr, Rolly Gander, Membership Chairman; Zone Chairmen's Pin to Mr. Jack Ridsdale. Following presentations Lions Club President Mr. N. Jolicoeur then introduced the incoming sattend the funeral of her brother Mr. J. Prisk 'Andrew's Parish, Port Arthur, was appointed singing of God Save The Queen, followed by an evening of dancing, for the members and their guests with music supplied by Mr. F. Bourke. A DT AS TT RR | ERD SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Se rey left Monday for Vancouver to Mrs. Eva Bailey, Fort William spent the week-end visiting the Jack Corbetts and the Roy Baileys. Mrs. Tom Whitton is a patient in McKellar . Hospital in Fort Willian. Several Schreiber residents attended the funeral of Mr. Jack Hawke in White River, Mr. Hawke was well known in Schreiber having live here for many years. DIOCESAN COUNCIL OF THE CATHOLIC WOMEN'S LEAG The 11th Annual Diocesan Convention of Catholic Women's League of Canada, Fort Willi Diocese, concluded in Schreiber May 13th. Rev. C.J. Kanavy, S.J., pastor of St. diocesan director for 1964-65 and other officers for the coming year elected were: Mrs A.A. Bedard, President, Port Arthur, Mrs. F.A,. Helmink, Terrace Bay, Mrs. H. Shack, Schreiber and Mrs. S. Cawley, Fort William, Vice- Pres. Mrs. M.J. Stokaluk, Recording Secretgzry, Fort William and Mrs. P. Gagne, Treasurer, Fort Frances. Two guest speakers addressed the two day session. Rev. Father A.i. Meloche gave a most inspiring talk on "Woman, the Teacher of Love" and Women's Role in the Church today". Father Meloche is an expert on Christian Family Life and lecturer for marriage institutes, Mrs. L. J. Maino, Detroit, also a lecturer on family life gave a splendid talk on the Gift of Women and the Making of a Home. All talks were recorded and will be made available to all parish councils upon request. Celebrants for the convention masses were: Rev. A.J. Hogan, D.P. V.G. of St, Agnes Parish Fort William and Diocesan Director, Rev.R.A. Carey, St. Hiliary's Parish, Red Rock. His Excellency E.Q. Jennings was ufable to attend the convention. Diocesan President, Mrs. Bedard and Director Father Kanavy were appointed delegates to the Catholic Women*ts League Provincial Convention in the St. Catherines Diocese July 7 - 9, The 1965 Diocesan Convention will be neid in St. Patrick's Parish, Fort William.
