POPULAR COUPLE HONORED BEFORE DEPARTURE Mrs. Sparky Black and son Terry will join her husband, Gordon, next week to make their home in Sault Ste.Marie where he has been transferred by the Liquor Control Board. Prior to leaving last month Gordon was honored at a Stag when he became the recipient of a sleeping bag from his many friends. Ida Romanuk and Norma Crockford entertained in Sparky's honor at the home of the-latter and her friends, acquired over the past thir- teen years spent in Terrace Bay, presented her with a crystal vase. The office girls from Kimberly-Clark made a presentation to Sparky of a sterling silver pin. A party of teenagers was held at the home of Steve Fedorak to bid bon voyage to Terry and this group presented him with a tie clip and cuff link set. BROWNIE BANQUET Brown Owl Mrs. Chas. Sitch, as mistress of ceremonies, welcomed the Mothers Saturday evening, to the Tenth annual Brownie Banquet held in the Motor Hotel. The dinner followed the singing of Grace by all Brownies, a toast to the Queen proposed by Sharon Desrosier and a toast to Lady Baden Powell by Mary Jo Kennedy. Concluding the main course a toast was proposed to the mothers by Louise Brooks, ably responded to by her Mother, Mrs. J. Brooks. _ District Commissioner, Mrs. Shirley Mikus, introduced the Guiders and members of the Girl Guide Association seated at the head table, and the guest speaker for the evening, Mrs. Isobel Ferrier. Mrs. Ferrier delighted the Brownies with the story of Odkpik, the Owl of the North, telling the history of a group of stranded Eskimos who survived when these owls came down from the North. Now fashioned as a Canadian emblem on the Eskimo pattern, the Ookpik will be sent to the World Fair in New York A rousing singsong was enjoyed before pro- jectionist Mrs. R. Downey showed a film "The Guide Log", depicting girls from Brownies right through Guiding, and the evening con- | cluded with the singing of Taps. Projects created by the Brownies served to decorate the head table for the banquet and Mrs. Dot Coupal was the social convenor in charge of the event. HAT SHOW PRESENTED BY LEGION LADIES The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, held a fashion show of Easter Hats March 24 and 25 in the Commmity Church Hall, convened by Mrs. Arnold McKech- nie, The hall was decorated tastefully in Easter colors with tables centred with tiny crystal vases of yellow daffodils. Tea and lemon tarts were served by servitors Alice Jean McKechnie, Diane Billings, Margot Ander- son, Cheryl Moore and Pat Simmer while a committee of Legion ladies replenished in the kitchen. An Easter surprise went to number 171. The holder of this ticket should contact Mrs. McKechnie. A ldvely array of hats and accessories was: shown by Robinson Stores, including handbags, gloves, scarves and costume jewel- lery. Commentary and description were given by Mrs. McKechnie. Donald Farrow arrived home to join his wife Annette, daughter Catherine and parents, Mr.and Mrs. A.Farrow for the Easter vacation. Donald attends the Lakehead Teachers College.
