MINOR HOCKEY DAY OBSERVED Minor Hockey day was observed here on March 7 with the following program of games lined up:- 2 - 2.30 - Mice on Ice - group 1 vs. group 2. 2.30 - 3 - Beginners - Bruins vs. Canadians. In both these groups there are over forty enthusiasts who play with vigor if not with skill. 3 - 3.30 - Peewees - Reds vs. Blues. 3.45 = 4.30 - Bantams vs. Kinsmen 4.30 - 5.15 - Midgets vs. Juveniles. The Bantams were resplendent in new sweaters presented to them by the Schreiber-Terrace Bay Moose Lodge. Sweaters and other gear have previously been presented to the various squads by the Legion, the Kinsmen and the Lions. The latter club pay for ice time for all minor hockey, some $2,000 in past recent years. Norman McCuaig is the President of the minor hockey committee, Reg .Bailey vice-president, Bill Stefurak secretary-treasurer with Tom Webb, Harold McParland, George A.Scott as directors. Others working actively include John St.Jean, Bill Niemi, Jack Bryson, Don Souliere, Howard Nicols and Jerry Fisher . OPEN HOUSE HELD IN PUBLIC SCHOOL Marking Education Week, the Public School held open house on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. In the classrooms were H.M.Ermel, Principal - grade 8, Gary Speck - grades 6 and 7 - Mrs.Verna Vanderlip - grade 5, Miss Gwen Hadley - grade 4, Mrs .Wesley Clemens - grade 3, Miss Joan Neil - grade 2 and Mrs. Oscar Laine - grade 1. R.McCuaig and Bill Furlonger, in the lat- ter's home, surrounded by the goodwill messages and flowers of relatives and friends. Among the congratulations were a framed letter from the Province of Ontario, a letter from the Township of Schreiber and personal messages from the Hon.John Robarts and Hon.George Wardrope . Grandaughter Maybelle Furlonger (Mrs. Del. Weberg) brought daughters Cathy (namesake of Mrs. McGregor) and Carol, who presented a flower- covered cake to their great grandmother. D'Arcy Furlonger, the only grandson in town, was there for the cutting of the birthday cake. LEGION BONSPIEL BANQUET The Legion held its bonspiel dinner on Monday, despite the fact the event was not quite finished due to poor ice. There were sixteen rinks entered, skipped by Bill Fraser, Elsie Ross, John Stitt, Nettie Thrower, Ed. Holmes, Neil Ross, Len.Hiller, Gino Caccamo, Herb Gellert, John Halonen, Tom Webb, Ray Niemi, Paul Pelto, Frankie Caccamo, Gerry Coons, Bert McGoey Bill Fraser was draw chairman and, following the dinner, presented prizes to Mrs.Vickie Winters (a corsage for being the rookie curler) - Paul Pelto (Skip of the first rink knocked out) - Herb Gellert (skip of the most nonchalant rink) - John Halonen (skip of the League of Nations rink) and, to his own rink (for being the best sports) . The dinner, prepared by the Auxiliary, offered a choice of chile con carne or Italian spaghetti with appropriate breads and relishes. A social with pro- gram rounded out the evening. KINETTES PLAN FASHION SHOW The Kinettes held their March meeting in the home of Glorie Miller and, it being vice-president's night, Mavis Godin presided. (Continued P. 8)
