SOCIAL & PERSONAL A surprise party was held at the home of Dene and Jim Clancy Sunday evening in honor of Pauline and Jack Phillips who were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary . Fifteen couples enjoyed the social evening. Gifts were presented to both Pauline and Jack by Jim Clancy on behalf of the group and Gerry Coons pro- posed a toast to the couple. Son Peter was home from the Lakehead College for the occasion and daughter Kathy also attended. Marie Edmunds as- sisted Dene in serving the buffet supper. Mr. George Wheeler of Haliburton, Ontario has joinsed the staff of the Terrace Bay News. George worked on the staff of the Haliburton County Echo. The following excerpts are from a front page "Best Wishes" to George in last week's edition of the Echo "In a few days George will be taking off to Terrace Bay and he will be missed not only by the Echo but 'n musical circles too as he not only gave leadership 'o the band, but taught quite a number tr become ine musicians. Bonnie McKay and Mrs. Judy Rogers were co-hostes- ses at a miscellaneous shower held at the home of their mother Mrs. Jack Thomas. A variety of beautiful gifts were presented to Marilyn from the twenty guests. After a social evening of games, the hostesses served a delightful lunch. Little Debby Vienneau enjoyed a party Sunday afternoon when she celebrated her fifth birthday. The eleven girls and boys had fun with a twist contest and games before indulging in a birthday cake and party lunch. Mrs. Fay Vienneau was assisted by Mrs. Yvonne Theriault. The Students' Council of Terrace Bay High School are holding a Bake Sale this Saturday in the Rec- reation Lounge. Proceec's of this sale will be used to help defray the expenses of a delegate who will at- tend a conference in Toronto on youth and alcoholism. Visiting in the Lakehead over the past weekend were Benny Hayes, Marcia Hamilton, Jim Cummings, Jim Duncan and Cheryl and the Fred McMillans. RECIPE OF THE WEEK - Chicken Pilaf Saute 1 c. raw rice in 4 tbsp. butter or margarine. Stir in 1 env. chickci-noodle soup mix, 3c. water, 2 tbsp. onion sliced fine, 1/2 tsp. salt. Cover, bring to a boil then simmer for 25 min. or until rice is tender and water absorbed. Stir in few sprigs of parsley chopped or | tbsp. dry parsley. Makes 6
