% & ovembe 96 LT ART CLUB PRESENTS ANNUAL EXHIBIT A guccessful exhibition of fine Arts and Crafts was held November loth, at the High School Auditorium. We are grateful to all who contributed time and effort by selling tickets assisting with the tea, loaning tables or helped in any other way. The aim of these exhibitions is to present the painter's work for the publicts viewing pleasure and children were invited to attend free of charge. It also gives the painter an opportunity to evaluate his work in comparison with the work of others. Work in various media was displayed and a number of interested viewers expressed an interest in a proposed art class to begin in January. Anyone wishing further information, please call 3578 or get in touch with Marvin Steen. A film on Art in Quebec was shown afternoon and evening. Mrs. M. Middaugh and Mrs. G,. Cantley of Red Rock jointly demonstrated the use of the potters' wheel. Mrs. S. Gaulin did a quick portrait sketch in pastels, for which Mrs. Virginia Galvin posed. These events added greatly to the enjoyment of the Show. The painting was won by the Bob Williams* family. Quite some time ago, the Art Club ammended its constitution to include crafts as well as Art. We are now the Terrace Bay Arts Society. This Show featured the work of the Photography and Ceramics group, and Nipigon--Red Rock Handicraft Guild and the Nipigon Art Club. The display from the Handicraft Guild caused considerable interest and comment. This is entirely a "self help™ project. We have a number of skilled craftsmen in Terrace Bay. Anyone willing to help others get started in their particular craft should contact the Recreation Centre and classes in crafts could be started in January. How about it ? Let's get the New Year off to a good start by lending a helping hand to others. CBRLING NEWS Don't forget the Mixed Bonspiel this week- end. All residents of both here and Schreiber are welcome. Skips make up their own rinks and contact S. Crawford before Thursday noon. 'Two ladies and men are required to make up a rink. Entry fee is only $1.00 per person. Prizes are turkeys and chickens. If enough teams enter, it is possible that curling mag begin Friday evening. Nevertheless the club rooms are open to all adults Friday night for a social hour or practice curling, which ever it may be. Thef? will be entertai ment Saturday evening and the club rooms will open Saturday noon. One of our local teams started out well the other night, so well that they seemed unable to do anything wrong. They almost called them selves the "Richardson's", for awhile. Unfor- tunately they lost.
