SUMMER PROGRAM AWARDS PRESENTED Recreation Director Ken Ward welcomed the large crowd that filled the Highschool Auditorium to capacity Thursday evening despite a very miserable wet night outdoors. "The children of the Terrace Bay Summer Playground and Swimming Program had worked hard and well-earned the support of their parents at this Awards Night program," he continued. With 441 awards to be presented, Mr. Ward brought the recipients forward in quick order to accept their crests from their coach or instructor. First, he paid special tribute to a group of stalwarts, Hugh ~ : 'Hamilton, Henry Hermes, Tony Delaronde, Don Greary, Murdo Campbell, Len Swirhun, Don Fedun, Peter Phillips, Ken McLeod of the Public School staff, Fern McLeod, Clifford Knauff, Ed Pineault, Jerry Papousek, Jack Crandlemire, Fred Erickson, Bill Stachiw who had coached Minor Baseball and the boys who were assistant coaches. Also gratitude was expressed to the Kiwanis Club who had provided uniforms and transportation as required for the Little League and to the Loyal Order of Moose who had done the same for the Pony League. Receiving their crests from Coach Tony Delaronde were members of the Yankees, the American League Baseball Champions; C. Desrosier, G. Fedorak, L. Reynolds, C. Boutillier, M. Caccamo, M. Corrigan, J. Corrigan, R. Bouchie, G. Zielke, D. Gresdal, M. Woods. Assistant coach was Ricky Dorman. The National League Baseball Championship went to the Braves who received their crests from Coach J. Crandlemire: R. Delaronde, J. Papineau, T. Knight, J. Daley, P. Papineau, J. Rowley, C. Rochon, T. Woods, W. Fisher, P. Santerre, D. Campbell, M. Sernesky, H. Geary and K. Turner. Champions of the Bantam League were the Blues. Receiving their crests were M. Valiquette, J. Mikus, B. Robinson, S. Fedorak, D. Falzetta, M. Moore, J. Schmiedschen, M. Evans-Smith, R. McKechnie, P. Comeau and T. Gerow. A bright little intermission was provided by "Ten Little Indians" a group of children from the Junior Playground. B, Z bi. ie ; and Terrace Bay gathered in the Municipal Office SAFETY RECORD ESTABLISHED On August 30th the employees of the Kimberly- Clark Pulp and Paper Company, Terrace Bay Mill, completed 300 days of operation without experiencing a disabling injury. This safe day record started on November 2nd, 1962 and represents more than one million man hours of safe operation. This is the third time during the 15 years of the Mill's operation that the employees have worked more than a million man hours. Many safety awards have been won by the people at the Terrace Bay Mill, the most recent of these being the Robert J. Askin award from the Ontario Pulp and Paper Makers'Safety Association for their exemplary safety performance during the years 1958 through 1962. Disabling injury free records of this type are the result of every employee accepting a responsibility to prevent accidents. The current objective of the personnel at the Terrace Bay Mill is to achieve an accident-free record for 1963. : Reeve Heenan greets delegates to Municipal League meeting. Delegates from, Port Arthur, Geraldton, McIntyre, O'Connor, Nipigon, Neebing, Paipoone, last Thursday evening at a meeting of the Thunder Bay Municipal League. Welcomed by Reeve Heenan, the delegates discussed Municipal problems peculiar to Thunder Bay District and prepared resolutions to be sent to the Northwestern League. At the conclusion of the meeting delegates were entertained by Terrace Bay Council at a luncheon in the Plaza Restaurant. Attending the meeting Were: S. Laskin, W.P. Heenan, W. Hanley, W.
