June 20, 1963 TOWN COUNCIL REVIEWS LICENSE FEES pees Be one So Le The municipal council held its regular meeting on June 11 with Reeve W.E, D'Arcy and full council present. Mr. F.V. Harness reported he had not con- tacted M. Cebrario firm regarding fire hall roof. The by/law for the Liquor vote was given its three readings and the date of September 4th, as suggested by Liquor Control Board, for the referandum, was accepted. In reply to high school board's request for a sidewalk beside the school, it was re- plied this will have to be dealt with by the 1964 council. Mr. JeM. McGrath described work being done in replacing frozen water line in south end. This line had been replaced at conside- rable expense last year, after being cracked by frost and was laid down almost nine feet. Mr. McGrath wondered if the adjacent sump installed for excess water run-off by the Separate School, might be affecting this line and will change the position of the sump in an effort to avert another freeze-up. The CPR wrote concerning information from Wardrope and Associates, consulting Engi- neers, on the town water lines and also thanked council for use of the hall to show safety films to school children. License fees to out of town salesmen were reviewed and it was agreed the following would be set: for photographers and Bible sales, $25.00; for all other books, maga- zines, etc $50.00 and for any other purpose, $100.00. Spadonits Ltd. asked that better police protection be arranged for their used car lot to prevent, or combat the present wholesale pilfering. The police will be contacted re- garding this. The Départment of Labor sent information regarding the act amending the Construction Safety Act of 1961-62. Water works accounts of $64.20 and general accounts totalling $1,889.40 were passed for payment. Mr. Harness will inspect and present prices for the properties being sold on Quebec and Newman Streets. Steps will be taken to enforce cleanup of several properties within the township - the town will then do the work and bill the pro- perty owners who have already received warnings regarding the condition. Mr. D'Arcy and Mrs. McCuaig described the trash containers used on Montreal Streets, attractive, compact, easily used and emptied. Inquiries will be made regarding prices on these. Mr. McGrath and Mr. Guina stated reno- vations and alterations in the public library will definitely be made this summer using, as far as possible, the town men. LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP INCREASE The library board held its regular meeting on June 14 with H.M. Ermel presiding, minutes and correspondence read by Miss G, Hadley. Others attending were Mrs. W.W. Wilkes, Mrs. D. McGuire, Mrs. W.G. Furlonger and Mrs. L.R. McCuaig. It was decided to increase the Insurance on books and equipment, Final notices will be sent to two de- linquent borrowers after which, if fine is not paid, court action will be taken. Mrs. A. LeBlanc, librarian, was granted holidays from July lst to 17th. One thousand book cards, 500 membership cards and cleaning items were ordered. The high school was billed $35.00 for the unit they order through the board each year. From January lst the membership increased by 109 with 32 joining from April 1st. In the month of May 166 adult and 798 children books were exchanged. ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH MEMBERS PLAN RECEPTION wn ed en The congregation of St. Andrew's United Church will hold a reception on June 20 at 8.30 in the Church Hall in honor of Rev. and Mrs. R.A. Crook who are leaving for Brandon. A special service of worship for senior girls leaving the C.G.I.T. is planned for Sunday morning service on June 23rd. The Terrace Bay Community Church extended an invitation to Schreiber United Church to share an open air service at Terrace Bay beach on August 4th at 11 A.M. when Rev. Husser will be in charge. Families are asked to bring picnic baskets and enjoy a time of fellowship. FATHERS DAY TEA IN ST. JOHN'S CHURCH i alc abil lilac ilal ieaililet The usual informality prevailed at the Fathers Day Tea in the Anglican Church on June 15, with the waiters, to the delight of the tea drinkers, occasionally shouting their orders to the kitchen, instead of sedately walking back and asking, and, making the ex- pected derisive comments on the amount of sandwiches and tea consumed by patrons. This is one function which the ladies enjoy, seeing men trot about with cups of tea and attempting to keep their particular table in order. Pouring tea were J.D. Bryson and Warren Robinson (Terrace Bay) with W.G. Furlonger, Geoff Birch and W. Collinson as servitors - assisted by a kitchen committee of Mesdames H, Costall, A.C. Rigelsford, J.D. Bryson, W.G. Furlonger, C. Sparkes, R. Winters and R, Champion with Mrs. J. Corbett as cashier.
