With their peacepipes as their laws, ten Guides formed a small circle to repeat the Guide Laws. Capt. Downey enrolled one new Guide, Linda Fontaine and presented Lois Ann Fraser and Jane Kelty with their First year star and their Second Class Badge before the ceremomy was completed, The District Commissioner then formally welcomed the parents and friends of the girls flying up, Rev. T. G. Husser and one very special guest, Mrs. Maitland. Mrs. Maitland she continued, had been the first Commissioner of the then North Shore District, had contributed much to the movement in this District, even establishing Guides and Brownies in Manitouwadge. On behalf of the District Mrs. Mikus then presented to Mrs. Maitland a silver spoon bearing the Guide emblem, and their best wishes as she leaves Terrace Bay to make her home in Toronto. Mrs. Maitland replied, stating she had been very happy to have a real part in the building of Guides and Brownies here, feeling Guiding --- offered something valuable to girls which they could not receive elsewhere. She admonished them all to remember one Guide Law - Do Your Duty to God -- with that everything else would fall into its right place. The Guides and their leaders joined in a Grand Howl for Mrs. Maitland. A short game amused the girls, as Mrs. Mikus read a story, accompanied by the girls for sound effects. BICYCLE RODEO The 3rd annual Bicycle Rodeo was run off Saturday, June 15th in the Arena with 130 contestants competing and bringing bikes of all shapes and sizes. All bikes entered in the contest were taped with red and white Scotchlite by the Kiwanis Club of Terrace Bay headed by John '| Graham and assisted by Howard Solly and Butch Pattyson. Cycles then underwent a thorough inspection by the members of the Police Department which was followed by an obstacle éourse designed to test the skill and knowledge of the riders. Obstacles consisted of diminishing clearance lines, serpentine, figure eight, brake test and offset obstacle test. Top marks went to Bevan Black with a perfect score of 70 points. Judging and assisting with all events were the following members of Teen Town headed by President Owen Turner: Jean Hopper, Paulette Boudreau, Susan Brooks, Marie Delaronde, Bruce Lundberg, Chris.Cavanaugh, Bob Hopper, Sharon Timpano, Danny Sthock, Velma LeBlanc, Ainsley Middaugh, John Anderson, Glen Pattyson and Lauri Marcella. Many thanks to them for their capable efforts. Also noted were the many parents who came to cheer on the contestants,' Their encouage- ment and interest was appreciated.
