Interest in the two-day affair was high with many spectators on hand at all times. On Saturday night, when the Senior Events were judged and trophies presented, the Arena was | crowded with spectators who applauded and en- | couraged the contestants as they executed intricate and, at times, outstanding routines., On Friday night Ronald Baker of Fort Wil-~ liam placed first in Novice Men's Singles with Terry Delaronde of Terrace Bay taking second place. In Novice Ladies Pairs Pamela | and Jamie Cumming came first - Barbara Fur- linger and Trudy Grant of New Liskeard were -- | second and Linda Hayes and Marie Delaronde placed third. In Novice Ladies Dance, Terrace' Bay scored when Marie Delaronde and Molly | Harris placed first and Elizabeth and Linda | Hayes came second, Terry Delaronde and Pam | Cumming scored first in the Novice Mixed | Dance and, in the Junior Ladies Championship | Jane Heenan came second. | The presentation of Trophies and Medals | were made by Northern Sectional Chairman Norman Carscallen of Sudbury, John Ferrier, Manager of Kimberly-Clark Frl»y and Paper Co. Limited and Reeve J.P.Heenan. Judges were Mrs. M.Lundberg of Elliott | i | j | Lake, Ian Greenway of Oshawa and Don Cruik- shank of Pembroke. Referees were E.N. Carscallen of Sudbury and Mrs. H.Bouchard of Terrace Bay. . Jim Cumming was Committee Championship Chairman and he was assisted by Mrs. Leo Phillips. A late windup banquet in the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel concluded the events. MARATHON MERCURIES TAKE OVER AS LEAGUE LEADERS Marathon Mercuries further established themselves at the top of the North Shore Intermediate League by defeating the Terrace Bay Superiors last Tuesday night 8 = 5, The Mercuries ran up an impressive six to two lead in the first two periods but were challenged in the third for supremacy. with the Superiors forcing the play and accounting for three unanswered goals to put themselves back into the game. ; | It was the fastest action this season and ! cleanly played.
