Serving 1! the District | Voks_ 5, No.32 COMETS REACH PLAYOFFS In the final league game of the year, Terrace Bay Comets clinched 4 th spot and a playoff position in the Lakehead Baseball League. Despite the many adverse conditions, ranging from schedule to weather to the Lake- head Baseball League itself, the Comets were able to come through, Jack Dixon lost the opener in a heartbreake to the Red Sox, by a 2-1 deficit and this left it all up to the final game with Colonels. Carl Kolody responded with a masterful one- hitter and his mates supported him at bat and afield for a convincing 6-0 victory, Only hit off Carl was a broken-bat. blooper over short that was definitely a freak hit, robbing hin of the no-hitter, Comets now start the weary trail to the playoffs, where once again the Lakehead Base- ball powers have seen fit to deny us even one home game, to insist that we be in the Lake- us to provide balls forair "home games" that are played in the Lakehead. It is just anothe case of the very prejudiced thinking of the League and their apparent efforts to get us Nout? as quickly as possible. In their efforts to provide baseball enter- tainment for Terrace Bay, the Comet players have again suffered from poor support and high expenses and now have several fund-raising activities under way. To keep down costs, players have actually paid money out of their own pockets to provide Terrace Bay with a team At this time, the deficit, largely held over from past years, stands at roughly $500, Add to this the costs of playoff travelling and equipment and it is apparent the club needs your help, SUPPORT OUR FUND-RAISING EVENTS, MASONIC HALL FOR TERRACE BAY The long planned Masonic Hall is now well underway, Like all building projects done by voluntary labor the edifice seemed at first to rise slowly however, within the last few weeks the outside of an imposing structure is rapid- ly nearing completion, The walls of the roomy lower floor are of ossent - a well has. been drilled, and a pump- ng system is being installed and an oil heat- ele system will be installed before the cold weather sets in, Plans for this floor include Kitchen and Washroom facilities and storage cupboards, The upper hall or Temple looks to the un- trained eye at its present stage somewhat Like | Noah's Ark, The walis slope in from the foundation and the roof trusses are constructe So that no other supports are needed, making for a spacious interior. There are no windows in the building, ventilation being supplied through the heating system.(Cont'd on Page 3) © % ? head for 7 otclock games in midweek and : | in . which' we 1 live = August 9, 1962 = RESTAURANT OPENS | Last Saturday Ida*s Circle Route Restaurant located on the corner of Highway 17 and the Mill Road (In the Circle Route Garage) offici- ally opened its doors to the public.
