ol" Vol.4, No.41 COUNCIL ANNOUNCES HYDRO BUILDING The Utilities Committee of the Township of Terrace Bay is pleased to announce that construction of a Hydro Utilities Building is now under way. The building will be a two-story, masonry, office and shop, The need for a building of this type has long been apparent. It will afford space for Utilities and some Municipal functions, the opportunity of housing their operations urder one roof, The amalgamation of these facilities in one building will offer great- er ease for administration and result in improved service to the community, The arrangements to go ahead with the con- struction of the building were made through the Ontario Hydro Commission, Their role in the administration of local Hydro could be compared with that of an auditor, They are primarily interested to see that Hydro mon- ies are used to the best possible advantage, The Hydro account over the years has in- creased in value, At this time a surplus of $85,000 in Hydro bonds has been accumulated, The end use of these funds is somewhat lLimi- _ ted. After careful consideration a mutual agreement between Ontario Hydro and the Muni- cipal Council was made. This was to the effect that a Hydro Utilities Building should be constructed at Terrace Bay. The cost of the building, including land and architects? fees, will be close to $55,000. Payment for the building will be made out of the present surplus. By the sale of these bonds the Hydro account will lose the annual interest --- approximately $2,750. per year, due from this investment, In addition the cost of operating the building will add to this loss, On the other hand - operating income from rentals will be suffi- _ cient to cover both building operation and _ maintain the income from bond interest. The Terrace Bay Council reports that throughout negotiations with the Ontario Hydro, they were most co-operative and at all times expressed a genuine interest in the affairs of the local Hydro, HYDRO OFFICIAL LAYS CORNERSTONE ON BUILDING The Hon, W.
