THE AWARDS PROGRAMME, en ee ee FLOWER _AND VEGETABLE SHOW AUGUST 26TH The Horticultural Society are pleased to announce their seventh annual Flower and Vegetable Show will be held in the High School Auditorium on Saturday, August 26th, To encourage the Society's efforts Reeve John Ferrier has added a new award to the many others already listed, It will be called the Reeve's Award, going to the adult exhibitor entering for the first year and attaining highest points in the entire show, Details on entering the Show will go out, together with entry forms, to all members of the Horticultural Society this week. CANADIAN LEGION FIELD DAY The Schreiber Branch Canadian Legion 109, together with the Ladies Auxiliary held their Annual Field Day on August 7th. Lewchuk Shows were in attendance and the children were out in full force' to enjoy the ever- popular Merry-Go-ROumd, Ferris Wheel and other rides ~ also the fish-pond booth. Foot Races for all ages were run in the morning, Baby Contest winners were as follows:- Girls, 1 Mo.to 3 mo. - Lynne McLellan lst and Sheila Power - 2nd. Boys - 1 to 3 mo. - Tommy Fournier, Girls 3 to 6 mo.- Judith Mohr lst and Cindy Kostecki 2nd. Boys 3 to 6 mo. -- Glen MacCuaig, Boys 6 to 9 mo. - Christopher Rand lst and Roland Cataford 2nd, Girls 9 to 12 mo. - Helen Holmes lst and Karen Thrower 2nd, Boys 9 to 12 mo. Danny McFayden Ist and Dino Speziale 2nd. Twins - James and Joanne Winters. Judging the baby Contest were Mrs, Chris- tina Graham, K.N., and paeeg, ) Handel assisted, Members of the Ladies Ausiliary worked in various capacities assisted by members of the Schreiber Kinette Club, Members of the Kinsemen Club worked with the Legion mem- bers setting up the booths for various games and refreshments, Bingo was play in the Legion Hall. Donna Slater of St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Port Arthur, is home on vacation, Corporal and Mrs,F,Richardson have returned from a holiday spent with relatives in and around Brandon, Manitoba and Kenora and Deyten, ont, Mr.& Mrs.R.Sisson and family have returned from a holiday spent at Guelph and other eastern points. Marilyn Pearson and Carol Holmes are yaca- tioning in Detroit, Michigan and ponte in _Bastern Ontario. YOUTH COUNSELLORS AND CLUB MEMBERS AT QUETICO Adult counsellors and selected members of community youth clubs will meet at ' the Quetic Conference and Training Centre for a week- long residential course, August 25th to September lst. Delegates will represent commmities in Northwestern Ontario and Man- itoba, The purposes of the course are: a) to interpret the rol and job of the Counsellor and the function of the executive members of youth organizations and b) to provide training in programme skills essential. to the conduct of youth organization. . Dr.Michael F,Grapko, M.A., PhD., University of Toronto, Professor Psychology and Child Study, will act as chief resource leader for discussions on Education, Family relations, Current Affairs and boy-girl Relations, ~ The programme has been divided into two courses. Course 1, from August 25 - 27, will be a concentrated weekend course for adult counsellors of youth clubs. For youth delegates accompanying to Course 1, a separate prograrme has been arranged. Course II is for youth club members AND Coun- sellors. A trophy will be awarded for the best press release of the Camp. The course is open to people from community teen clubs, church groups, school or other conmmnity organizations in the ratio of one adult counsellor to two teenagers, Kegistra- tion 'forms may be obtained from the Community | Programmes Branch, 400 Catherine Street, Fort William, or from K.G.Ward, Recreation Direc- | Se ae : § A tor, Terrace Day.
