Mrs. Jack Anderson, Catholic Women's League representative to the Schreiber Com- mittee of the Port Arthur Children's Aid Society introduced the guest speaker, Mr. J. Herbert Dawson, to a gathering of St,Martin's | parishioners, in the Parish Hall at 9.00 P.M. on Sunday, June 4, The talk began with a comparison of .the home life of a century ago to the home life of today and the effect it has on the child. Mr. Dawson also stressed that the purpose of the Children's Aid Socie keeps the child in his own home by helping parents overcome conditions which result in neglect of children, It provides a home for the child who has none by finding a permanent adoption home for him. We secure temporary homes for the children whose own home cannot, temporarily, care for him by placing him in a supervised, boarding foster home. We also help the unmarried mother to plan intelligent ly for her child's care, in order that he may yet have an opportunity to become a useful happy citizen, Mr. Dawson's very informative and interest ing talk was well received,as shown by the variety of questions posed from the flocr. Some of the questions asked were: " hat is the age limit for parents who wish to adopt a child?" Answer -.Forty-five; but ; in some cases older, Question - Are younger. ; children allowed to be taken in a foster home | where there are teenagers at home? Answer - Yes, we find this often good for them.
