; ' & Schreiber. | | | | | | oe nee i atelier siento sess i in scrote sn nin apenas TERRACE Bay News Circulation Terrace Bay KIWANIS CLUB STAGE SUCCESSFUL FISH DERBY The 10th Annual Fish Derby, sponsored by the Terrace Bay Kiwanis Club, was a decided success, despite the poor local weather last weekend, Club officials report that ticket sales were as high as other years, with many entries in each category, Hundreds of local residents and visitors were at the Arena on Sunday night to see the prizes presented for the many fine specimens in each category and to learn who won the Draw Prize - an aluminum boat. Prizes were distributed by Ralph Lindberg, President of the Kiwanis Club, as follows:-- LAKE TROUT - Ist - Benny King, Rossport - 7 lb. 4 oz, = 2nd. Don Stuart, Schreiber - 3rd Shirley Jartus, Schreiber and 4th Harry Jar- tus, Schreiber, SPECKLED TROUT - Ist - Mrs, H.Hermes, Ter- race Bay - 3 lbs. 5 oz. = 2nd Bill Hanley, Terr,Bay - 3rd Herb Legault, Rossport and 4th, Dr.M.McCausland, Terrace Bay. PIKE - 1st - Raymond Delaronde, Terrace Bay - 17 lbs. 2 oz. - 2nd Harold Lumsden of Nipigon, 3rd John MacDonald, Terrace Bay and 4th - Ray . Olsen, Terrace Bay. --_---- PICKEREL - lst - Mike MacDonald = 5 lbs. 9 oz. 2nd, H. Liebert - 3rd, Butch Moore and 4th, Marvin Osmar - all of Terrace Bay. The prize for a fish caught by the young- est entrant was won by three-year old Debbie Burnside with a 3 1b. 2 oz. pickerel while nine-year old Christine Olsen was awarded the 'Smallest Fish! prize for her four ounce pike. Both girls are local residents, A. Smith of Schreiber reseived a prize for the entry closest to two lbs. while Arlene Osmar of Terrace Bay won the award for the largest fish caught by a lady with her 5 1b. 6 oz. pike, For the smallest fish caught by a lady, Mrs.Gordon Dodge, Terrace Bay received a prize and Bill Hanley of the same town took honours for the first fish entered - a 3 lb. 45 02, speckled trout, The last fish entered award went to George Irwin of Marathon, Other awards went to Arlene Osmar and H, Liebert of Terrace Bay for the fish closest to S-tb. and 4 1b. respectively. The State Deputy of tha Knights of Colum bus, Mr. M.McPherson of Sault Ste, Marie, Ontario, recently announced the appointment | of Albert J, Cadieux of Terrace Bay as Dis- trict Deputy of the newly formed District 29, District 29 comprises the councils at Gerald-- ton, Schreiber and Marathon, Mr, Cadieux joined the K, of C, in 1952 as a charter member of St, (Cont'd next col,) Vol.3, noon, No.32 August 11,1960: = Edward's Council of Schreiber, He is also a member of the Father Baxter 4th Degree Assembly of Fort William, Very active in Council affairs, Mr, Cadieux has served on the executive of St,Edward's Council as Warden, Deputy Grand Knight and Grand Knight. He has also been active in committee work, chairing several initiations, open air masses Corpus-Christi processions, etc., He served one term as District Warden of District 14, Mr. Cadieux has appointed Jack Anderson of Terrace Bay as District Warden of District 29, MINISTER INDUCTED IN COMMUNITY CHURCH HERE On Friday evening, August 5th an impress--- ive service was held in the Community Church, Terrace Bay, when Rev. J. Raymond Anderson, B.A., was inducted as Pastor. A large group of church members and friends were on hand to witness the induc- tion service and to meet the new minister ' and his femily at a reception held in the Church Hail afterwards. .~- Taking part in the service were, the Chairman of the Presbytery of Superior, Rev. Stanley R. McLeod, B.A., D.Bs3 whois the Minister of Wesley United Church in Fort -- William and the Rev. A, F. Gavrel, Minister of the United Church in Nipigon, On behalf of the Presbytery, greetings were extended by Mrs, Jean Neuert of Fort William and the Rev, Donald Ross brought the good wishes of his congregation in Vickers Heights, Other friends from the Lakehead and Schreiber were also present, Arrangements for the reception were handled by Mrs, H. Goodfellow and presiding at the tastefully appointed tea table were Mrs, E.. Rowson and Mrs, R. Ostling. Mem- bers of the Ladies Auxiliary served the _ guests, MARATHON GOLF CLUB TOURNAMENTS AUG.27 & 28 The Peninsula Golf Club of Marathon ex- tend a cordial invitation to residents of Terrace Bay and District to attend their 1960 Tournaments, The Men's Open will be held on Saturday, August 27th with entry fees for both amateurs and professionals. There will be two amateur events - a Handicap and No-Handicap - with excellent prizes in each, The field is limited to the first sixty-four entries and those wishing to take part should send their names to W, Kowalchuk, Tournament Chairman, Marathon, A social evening after the tournament is ~Pplanned, | The Ladies Open Tournament will be held on Sunday, August 28th with starting time set for 10 A.M, E,S.T. and eighteen holes of play.
