Many items were discussed and one of the main topics was the agreement of all those present to formplate an Executive. Delegates from nine other Clubs in North- western Ontario gathered in Atikokan to- gether with a large representation from the Department of Lands & Forests, NEW ONTARIO PHYSICAL FITNESS COMMITTEE FORMED Chairman of the new Ontario Physical fit-_ ness study committee is Mr,Harry Price, chairman of the Canadian National Exhibition, The announcement: was made recently by Health Minister, M,B,Dymond to whom the committee will report. An initial appropriation of $35,000 is being made to the study committee to formu- late a suitable programme, The physical fitness programme introduced this year by the Ontario Government aims at giving every child in the Province a chance to develop-mental and physical soundness through sports and physical culture activi- ties, Care will be taken to make the pro- gramme available to all youngsters and not put emphasis rather on the development of a small number of outstanding athletes, Vole 3, No.9 EWS May 12, 1960 R. STEVENS WINS SINKING FUND His lucky guess of 8,45 and 6 > seconds A.M,, on May 4th, won for Russell Stevens of Terrace Bay the $200, prize money put up by the local Kiwanis Club in their recent "Sinking Fund" Contest. The: actual sinking time was 9,22 A.M, SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION SCHEDULE MEETING The next regular meeting of the Terrace Bay Softball Association will be held on May 17th at 8 P.M, in the Large Meeting Room of. the Recreation Centre, HARMONY BELLES PRESENT FIRST ANNUAL CONCERT On Friday, April 29th, the Terrace Bay Ladies Choir presented their first annual concert in a well-filled High School Auditorium, The programme divided into Six parts also featured the Terrace Bay Band and a novelty number, "The Woman In The Shoe" and Humper- dinck's "Evening Prayer" saw junior dance pupils of Mrs. D. Caldwell occupy the centre of the stage. Selections sung by the choir included semi-classical, spiritual, lively novelty numbers, a medley from the King and I and South Pacific and ended with the beautiful harmony of "Now The Day Is Over", The Band, under the baton of A, H, Hannula, presented nine spirited arrangements, which had feet tapping in rythm and thee | a Cha-Cha, "In The Good Old Summer Time", The backdrop used in the South Pacific | numbers was painted by the Terrace Bay Art | Club. Mr. S, Hodgkiss designed and executed | the shoe which was used in the novelty | number and he and J, Mikus assisted back- | stage. As a result of the recent Contest, the Choir Accompanist and Director, Mrs. E, Hodgkiss, announced the new name chosen by the group is "The Harmony Belles", The name was submitted by Mrs. E, Garvin, eee H & S INSTRUCTORS NAMED. FOR QUETICO. COURSE Instructors for the Sacond Annual Leader- ship Course for Northwestern Ontario Home and School officers have been named by the Area Al Committee. The Leadership Course will be held at the Quetico Conference and Training Centre May 27-29, Mrs. Lillian Thingstad, Area Vice-Pres- ident, Fort William, has been appointed Course Co-ordinator. Mrs, A.B, Adey of Atikokan, Rainy River District Organizer has been appointed Assistant Course Co-ordinator. Mrs. C.D, Riley, Port Arthur, will instruct in Dis- cussion Methods, Mrs. J.S,.
