TERRACE AGAIN SPLITS WEEK-END BILL -- MORO BRILLIANT IN TRON-MAN" "EFFORT. Behind the strong right arm of hurler Jim Moro, Terrace Bay again emerged from the weekend. activities with a split as ' they beat the high-flying ' Port Arthur Red Sox 3-1 on Moro's 3-hitter, while being shut-out in the 2nd game by a 3 = 0 count. The results moved the T.B.ers into a tie for 2nd spot with the Westfort Albions, Sunday's games both proved to be pitcher's battles. In the opener, the lst inning was scoreless, but in the 2nd inning, the Red Sox scored their lone run when Barton Bradley reached 2nd on a 2-base error and promptly scored on a lone single by Axent. The lead was -short-lived however, as Terrace scored 2 in th 4th on almost identical plays. The lst run came when Hanley walked and went around to 3rd on 2 wild pitches. He then scored as pitcher Forster made a throwing error to 3rd on a cut- off play. Meanwhile Marvin Osmar was getting on base by a walk and he too scored on a wild pitch and an error by Forster. The Terrace Bay insurance run resulted when Hansen singled for the only Terrace hit after 2 were out in the 6th. An error and a fielder's choice then loaded the bases and Hansen scored when Pollard walked. This ended the scoring as the Terrace team proved to be real opportunists in winning the game.......60. In the second game a surprising maneuver resulted when the I.B.ers were forced to pitch Moro again for the Znd game. The Red Sox this time showed right from the start they meant business as a lead-off walk to Giardetti, plus Singles by Bruce, Southern,Mart Bradley and Chenier resulted-in 2 runs and proved to be all they needed. Their 3rd run came as a result of a double by Southern who scored on an error. Meanwhile the Red Sox hurler Mowat was hand- cuffing the T.B.ers on 1 hit, a scratch single in the 5th by Pollard, as he allowed no one to reach 3rd after the lst inning. The win thus allowed the Red Sox to climb back into undis- puted precene a of 'first Place... 0's oee dese First Game: RH. His iron-man effort was truly brilliant and with a few runs from his light- hitting mates could have even easily won the second game.... Bob Southern, known locally for his hockey performances with the Red Rock Royals, was a continual threat at bat as he banged out 2 long doubles for the Red Sox..... Maurice Osmar pulled off the catch of the day as he robbed Chenier of the Red Sox of a sure hit with a running -over-the-head gloved catch. Marvin Osmar made a catch at short which was almost equally as good..... For a change, the -B.ers won a game by a. method at which they usually lose one, this was by Red Sox errors. avy Bruce, Chenier & Southern paced the Red Sox in Sunday's second game with 2 hits apiece......A caustic comment overheard on cabky & as shouted from the Red Sox bench in regards to and possibly indicative of the Terrace Bay batting was the following: "These guys are all Kleenex hitters. All they can do is pop-up." - could be.......The pitching turned in last Sunday by both teams was spectacular, Mowat & Forster of the Red Sox each threw one-hitters with Forster being a victim of errors and wild pitches by himself. Jim Moro struck out 10 in the lst game, and retired the side on 3 straight strike-outs in the last inning.. A shivering crowd of 250 indicated that they were 100% behind the T.B. team as they made enough noise for 2500.. ..-Petrie's playing in leftfield was very steady with Ward &Hansen also turning in good efforts......The entire Terrace team's fielding is steadily improving....This:week~énd the T.B.ers make. their 2nd road trip to the' Lakehead. On Saturday at 7:30: they meet the Husky-Giants at the Stadium in Port Arthur, while: on 'Sunday at 1:45 they meet-Westfort at McKellar Park in ~ Fort William, A tightening up of the standings dagsaetahy necessitates support for the team, so if you're at the Lakehead make it a point to see these 2 eames.
