TERRACE SiLITS WITH "SWS TRORT 4 MORO HURLS 4-HIT VICTORY. . Led by the brilliant pitching of Jim Moro, Terrace Bay marked their debut in the Lakehead Baseball Association by coming from behind in the second game to edge the West Fort William Albions 3 --- 2 after being decisively crushed 12 - 5 in the opening game. The win gave the T.B.ers a split in the double- header. From the opening inning of the lst game, Westfort showed that they were out to make the game a rout. Carl Kolody started on the mound and promptly walked the first 3 men to face him, He was replaced by Thrower who received poor support from his mates as, 3 Bits, 2 errors and 2 walks resultéd in 6 big runs. Terrace showed however, that they were full of fight as they came back to score 4 runs on singles by Marv. Osmar, Hansen, Fetrie and Follard. From this point on Westfort pulled away as they counted single runs in the 3rd and 4th and a pair in each of the 6th and 7th. ; Terrace mustered only one more run and this came when Hansen doubled in Maurice Osmar who had singled. The game was marked by the homerun of the season, a 290 foot clout by rightfielder Hogan of Westfort.. In the second game it seemed as if the T.B.ers had not yet lost their jitters. as 3 errors promptly filled the bases.: Moro struck out the next man but a fielder's choice and a single scored 2 Westfort runs. Terrace then came back to score a run as Stachiw bunt-singled, stole a base and came home on a fielder's choice. From this point the game breezed along quickly to the final inning with each team going down almost: in order. Only in the 6th was there any trouble as Moro struck out the 3rd man with. the. -bases loaded. It was then in the last regular ute that Terrace tied the score on a walk to Fetrie, a stolen base, and a long single by Hanley. However the side was retired on strikeouts. Westfort threatened in both the 8th and 9th as a run was hipped at the. plate in each inning 'on 2 fine throws by: Tollard, the one in the ninth completing a double play on a relay from Hansen. (cont'd next col.).: *Ball Games (cont'd) It was then in the 9th that Terrace made its game-winning bid as Hanley opened with a single and on a beautiful sacrifice by More went to second. A single by Stachiw and an error then brought in Hanley with the winning run and sent a beaming Terrace crowd home happy. Baseball Banter: The pre-game festivities were marked by the throwing of the first ball by Mill Manager Bob Shirriff, The batter, Improvement District Chairman John Ferrier, promptly fouled off the Ist Titch..... The crowd consisted of about 200 people but should have been greater consider- ing a lot of the spectators were from Schreiber, Red Kock and the Lakehead....... Hansen played well in rightfield in the lst game as he made 2 nice,.catches and managed a double.... Moro showed superb control with beautiful hooks and curve pitches. He walked only 2 and looked like he could have thrown another 3 innings....... Hanley's receiving behind the plate was solid and his hitting always came when required at crucial times....... Marv. Osmar performed well at short in the lst game as he made 3 long throws for outS...ees The whole Terrace squad was nervous and jittery at the start of each game.......+.- This week-end's doubleheader consists of 2 games at the Lakehead, 6:30 Saturday night at McKellar Fark and 2:00 p.m, Sunday at the Stadium in Port Arthur.
