e RECREATION FLYER WORDS OF THOUGHT A small boy came up with this brilliant defensé of his low marks on thé report card: "I was the highest of all who failed", NORTH CAMP SOFTBALL Last Thursday night, Mr. Ed Cavanaugh officially opened the softball league at'the North Camp. We have twé teams of men eager to participate 'in this activity the BUDGIES and'the CANARIES, The score ended up 27-23 for the CANARIES, The winning team was a sure loss until in the sixth inning when 12 runs were brought in. Home runs were made by Slim Dorman, two by Ron Potyok who was the big hero of the CANARIES; 2 triples by John Laaja; and a 2-bagger for Andy Cadieux, For the BUDGIES ~ St. Dennis hit a triple; John Zvonar a triple; Art Tanner a triple, Dennis James hit a 2- bagger, No home runs were hit by the BUDGIES, The pitching was good on both teams, Every Sunday and Thursday these teams will play at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday night the Budgies beat the Canaries' by a score of 25-12, Home runs were by Cadieux and James, The season's first triple play by the Budgies (Zvonar to James to LeBougie to C.Bougie) Bach team managed to field a full team, LITILE LEAGUE BASEBALL Last Saturday we had t.o very close games, The hard-hitting Braves, who are coached by Ron Slattery, defeated the Yankees, who are coached by Red Woods - 9 to 7. The second game was really a close com- petition in real skill, Here the Dodgers managed to pull up a 4-2 win over the fast-rising Red Sox. Ronnie Schock Was a stand-out on the Dodgers team, coming up with a home run in the first inning and a triple in the fourth inning, Ernice Schock coaches the Dodger and Richard Jeanneret is helping us out in coaching the Red Sox. We need an adult coach for these boys. If you can help out, please contact J. Fraser at the Rec- reation Office, There will be no little league baseball this Saturday as the boys , are going to Scout Camp, Present Standing for the boys -= (Cont. on next col.) We were to play Marathon's Pony League, but due to rain, were unable to play ball, Asa substitute, the boys were initiated into lacrosse, with the fine help of Ed Bowlin, and it sure was fun. In fact, were given 7 lacrosse sticks on loan for our boys (from 13 to 15 years of age) to practice prior to a game in Terrace Bay against Marathon this Friday at 7:30 pem. We would like to have you drop in to see this new activity in our community, to take place in the Arena, We wish to thank Mr, John Jeanneret, Mr. Willard Vezina, Mr. Malcolm Craig and Brian Harvey for making this trip possible by helping out with transportation. Next Sunday, at 3:15 p.m. the Marathon Pony League team will come to our town to play our boys, Try to get out to see the game, WADING POOL HELP NEEDED If there are any ladies who could super- vise the wading pool in the aftemmoons from Monday to Friday, please phone in to the Recreation Office and leave your name. We would appreciate it if the parents would speak to their children about bringing their dogs down for a swim. We do not want dogs, glass, fishing rods, etc., in this pool, The aforementioned items were all brought into the pool last week, The wading pool is primarily _ for those children too small to go to the beach, and we do not encourage any other than in this group. The water is changed ~ daily and chlorinated. Help keep the pool clean, ROLLER SKATING IS FOR YOU Do not forget that you can roller skate in your Arena at the Recreation Centre every Thursday night from 7:30-10:30. (Cont, on page 9 )
