GUIDES AND BROWNIES The regular meeting of the Local Association of Guides and Brownies was held on April 25th in the Activity Room of the Recreation Centre. We were.very pleased to see the Guide and Brownie Leaders pres- ent and so many other interested ladies, The highlight of the evening was our Commissioner's report on the Ontario Assosa iation of Girl Guides Convention held in Toronto on April 14th ana 15th, 1955. Many interesting events were witnessed by Mrs, Maitland, We mention a few here for the interest of the readers--~-The Provincial Commissioner was presented the award of the Beaver in recognition of long and faithful service. 178 Girl Guides were presented the Gold Cord by the wife of the Lt. Governor, Mrs, Breithaupt. This is the highest award in Guiding. The report from our section was given by Mrs. F, Willard, Area Commissioner, Dryden, Ontario. There were 227 Delegates attending this convention from all over Ontario "Inspirational" was the word Commissioner Maitland used to describe the proceedings, ; We would like to extend an invitation to all Guides and Brownie Leaders and interested ladies to attend a meeting with Mrs. Horneastle, Area Chairman of Training, to be held on May 30tr.. Watch the News for further details regarding time, place, etc., and keep this date open. ist Pack Terrace Bay Brownies Brown Owl Mikus Golden Bar: Joan Bouchie Diane Marcotte, Mary Jane Hopper. The Fairy Six had Dawn Rowlandson and Bonnie Jean Wilson invested as Sixer and Second. Two new Tweenies were welcomed into the pack, Lately, proficiency badges -have been awarded to Peggy Shirriff, House ~ Orderly; Dawn Rowlandson, Minstrel, Janneane Briggs, Minstrel and Skater, Congratulations, girls]! NOTES A Mother and Daughter Banquet will be held in the Hotel Terrace on May 28th under the convenorship of Mrs. W. Proceeds of this sale are used to promote Guiding throughout Canada, Phone a Brownie for a box or two. <A box of two dozen of these delic- ious cookies sell for only 35¢. Anyone wanting 1.0.D.%. Guide Camp will be held at Marathon from July 9th to 16th, 1955, Watch this colum for further details. 0-0-0 CREDIT UNION NEWS Credit Unions are growing faster in the Metropolitan Area than in any other part of Canada or the United States. 250 of the 1200 Ontario credit unions are located in Greater Toronto, They are increasing rapidly each week. _ Industries, small business, churches, community groups, associations and all levels of civil service have credit unions. Organized to encourage savings and provide low cost loans there are now nearly 400,000 members in Ontario with assets- over $100 million. 0-0-0 SAFETY SLOGAN CONTEST Last week's safety slogan "Good Housekeeping is Good Anywhere" produced the following winners: G.
